Some of the things that you have done since you were a kid, like bathing, have become almost second nature to you. 1. Sleeping

The eight hours of uninterrupted sleep wasn’t the normal sleep pattern in the past. This suggests that some years ago – before the light bulb was discovered - people would normally sleep in segments. So instead of eight hours people would sleep for three to five then have an hour of wakefulness and then go back to sleep for another three to five hours. This explains why you wake up in the middle of the night feeling tired and restless. Despite being exposed to artificial light, somehow you managed to revert to the natural sleep cycle, hence sleeping in segments.

2. Breathing

Yes, that’s right. Even the way you breathe has been wrong. That’s because you are probably amongst the majority of people who use their chest to breath instead of their diaphragm. This part of your body is under your lungs and close to your belly. Breathing from your diaphragm instead of your chest will give you more oxygen and lower your blood pressure. Not only that, but it will also reduce headaches, fatigue and anxiety. Next time you breathe, try ‘inflating’ your stomach and keeping your chest and shoulders still. This should help you strengthen your diaphragm and slowly change the way you breath.

3. Folding your shirt

How long does it take you to fold your shirt? This can be incredibly time-consuming, especially if you have a mountain of clothes waiting to be folded and a bunch of other chores you need to do around the house.

However, if you learn how to do it right, you can save yourself a huge amount of time. While it may take some practice, in the end you will be able to fold your shirts in just 2 seconds like this guy in the video. Check it out!

4. Peeling a Potato

In case you weren’t familiar with the trick, you will be as amazed as I was when I first discovered this life changing secret to peeling a potato. Well, it is a life-changing trick – at least for the potato lovers and those who don’t get to spend much time in the kitchen e.g. busy mums and workaholics. Check out this video to learn how to peel a potato with your bare hands within just a few minutes!

5. Bathing

Did you know too much showering is bad for you? If you are taking a bath every day, you are not leaving any time for the ‘good’ bacteria to grow on your skin. These good bacteria can minimise the risk of infections and other harmful chemicals getting through the skin thus they are necessary to your health.

This simply means that your skin is more vulnerable to diseases when bathing every day since it damages its protective layer. The good news is that if you hate taking baths you won’t have to do it as often…unless, of course, you are hitting the gym every day.

6. Brushing Your Teeth

Do you know when it’s the right time brush your teeth? While many people would go for twice a day, after meals, studies have shown that the right time is twice a day before you eat or drink anything. This is crucial as doing so after consuming acidic meals will soften the enamel of your teeth exposing them to cavities. Also, instead of using a hard toothbrush, use a soft brush to do the job and target your gums to decrease the risk of gum diseases.

7. Sitting

You may want to rethink the way you sit down on your office chair as this can have a serious impact on your health. Since your body is not designed for the straight-backed high chair design, sitting on it puts additional pressure on your spine which can lead to chronic back pain. Experts recommend ‘active sitting’ which requires using an exercise ball or a chair that doesn’t have a high back. This should allow your abdominal muscles to stay active and balance your weight without straining your back.

8. Cooking a round egg

It’s possible that you’ve been cooking eggs the wrong way. Cooking a round egg is as important as sitting and peeling a potato the right way and although it sounds easy in reality it’s not. If you consider yourself a perfectionist and an egg lover, then you will definitely love this kitchen trick. The only thing you need is an egg and an onion ring. After watching this video, you won’t have to put too much effort into cooking your favourite dish.

9. Peeling an egg

Another cool tip for eating your eggs the right way is learning how to peel one properly. While it may be frustrating to peel an egg – especially when they are fresh and you are really hungry, there is a way to do in a few seconds! Check out this video to find out how…

10. Having Babies

Most doctors recommend pregnant women to give birth in the lithotomy position which requires that you lay on your back and raise your feet and legs. However, according to the World Health Organisation this is not the best position to give birth in as it’s considered to be harmful and results in a more difficult labor. On the other hand, non-lying-down positions and specifically squatting labor position can increase pelvic diameter by 10 percent.
