While a politics degree may equip you with the knowledge of political systems and governments, it doesn’t give you the gift of gab and other personal attributes you need to become a suave politician. As unfair as that sounds, the truth is you don’t actually need to attend a single political science class to break into mainstream politics.

1. Wyclef Jean

When a devastating earthquake hit Haiti in January 2010 killing over 200,000 and displacing many more, Wycliffe Jean, a Haiti-born musician, collaborated with several other musicians to record ‘We are the World 25 for Haiti’ a charity single for the survivors. His passion for Haiti would then drive him into politics, declaring his interest in running for the country’s presidency later that year. Although the Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council disqualified him from running for the seat because he didn’t meet residency requirements, Jean still has political blood flowing in his veins.

Schwarzenegger would then proceed to run for election as governor of California in 2003 and 2006. He won both elections.
