Having a habit that is so powerful that it becomes an obsession sounds like a bad thing. However, you can make something positive out of it when you focus your energy on those things that matter to you and are more likely to help you move forward.

1. Follow your passion

Pursuing your passion means finding what you love and working towards a goal. If you love your job, you will make it your priority to be excellent at what you do and always look for ways to advance. The secret to career development is to race against yourself and constantly push your limits.

2. Show that you want it

If you are after a promotion or getting a job in a different industry, you have to demonstrate your willingness to do it. Showing that you want the job can get you halfway to your goal and each small step you take every day can make the difference. Make sure to practice the skills that will get you to the top.

3. Seize opportunity

Not taking risks results to being stagnant. In order to move forward you have to be able to try something different. Seize every day and try to identify opportunities that come your way. Network with other people and keep your options open.

4. Trust yourself

Make it your goal to develop confidence and trust in yourself. Doing so will help you understand what you are after in your career and make the most out of opportunities. When it comes to taking a serious career decision, learn to trust your own instincts and don’t be afraid to get dirty.

10. Set priorities

Perhaps one of the most important factors in making the most out of your career is setting priorities. If you don’t take the time to realise what’s most important, you are risking wasting valuable time working on goals that can’t have the impact you want to see in your career trajectory.
