3 Reasons Why You Should Hire an Intern

An internship is a type of employment that offers training on the job on little or no salary. Majority of professional careers have internships as the initial stage of recruitment in order to determine the skills and experience of an individual before they offer them a position. While interns are usually university students or recent graduates, many interns are those individuals who decide on a career change after they have been in a different industry.

Here are the top 3 reasons for hiring an intern rather than an employee:

#1 Fresh Perspective

Hiring an intern enables the firm to obtain the fresh perspective of an outsider. Since interns are typically in their early twenties, they have fresh ideas and a new way of looking at things. Many companies in today’s age are unfamiliar with technology and innovation – which is something that the young generation is comfortable with.  Not sure what social media is? Hire an interns to help explain and smooth the transition into the new age!

#2 Extra Help

Are you struggling with completing projects and meeting deadlines? Well an intern might just be the answer to your woes. They are enthusiastic and motivated to make a good impression on you, therefore they will be up to completing mundane tasks such as photocopying, filing or stapling documents – as long as they get to be around professionals! Make sure you make the internship a learning procedure for the intern as they are likely to be getting experience in an industry which they want to pursue.

#3 Probation Period

Internships usually last between 2 weeks and 2 months – depending on the job position and salary. Don’t hire an intern if you just seek cheap labor; hire them to serve a purpose! This is a motivational factor for the candidate as well; therefore they will try harder and give the position their best shot. Many employers tend to treat the internships as a testing period for potential employees, rather than just an extra set of hands at work.
