5 Reasons Why You Need to Ditch Your Pajamas When You Sleep

Sleeping with or without clothes has been an ongoing debate for centuries. Science is now telling us that it is actually better to ditch our clothes when we are under the covers and that wearing clothes when sleeping will negatively affect our quality of sleep. To prove this theory correct, here are 5 reasons you need to ditch your clothes and sleep naked.

1. A better and deeper sleep

According to numerous studies carried out by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, your body temperature actually declines as you sleep. Wearing anything that might disrupt your body temperature from doing this will interfere with your sleep. A core body temperature that is too hot leads to restlessness and even insomnia. By skipping the clothes, you are setting your body up to have the best and deepest sleep it can possibly have.

2. Stay forever young

If you truly want to get your beauty sleep experts recommend keeping your temperature below 21 degrees Celsius. The way this is accomplished, you guessed it, by sleeping naked. Keeping your temperature below 21 degrees allows for the anti-aging hormones — melatonin and the growth hormone to function properly. These hormones will work better and allow the body to regenerate resulting in better hair and better skin. 

3. Lose the Belly Weight

Sleeping naked can also contribute to losing some of the extra belly weight that is hanging around. The reason behind this deals with two hormones. Experts tell us that during the night the growth hormone increases while the stress hormone decreases, but only if your body is cool enough and is getting the right amount of sleep. If we don’t get enough sleep our stress hormone rises drastically and causes hunger in the mornings. Sleep more, eat less, feel better is just one reason to sleep naked. 

4. It is Good for the Body Parts

There used to be a fear in women that sleeping naked was somehow unsanitary but in fact it is the opposite. Sleeping naked allows the lady parts to air out, thus reducing bacterial and fungal infections, according to Jennifer Landa, MD, author of The Sex Drive Solution for Women. For men, studies have shown that sleeping naked actually increases fertility as it allows the testes to stay at a regulated temperature. 

5. Better Sex

It is not just that love making becomes easier when there are no clothes to take off; there is actually something to be said about sleeping naked next to someone else. When you sleep naked next to your partner, the skin-to-skin contact will release the feel-good hormone oxytocin. The hormone increases the sexual responsiveness while combating depression and stress. A win win situation in our books.

It seems like a no brainer to us, ditch your clothes and sleep naked. You can expect to sleep deeper, feel better and even look better. Cuddle up under those blankets, get naked and enjoy the body Mother Nature intended you to have.
