5 Reasons Why Your Work Outfit Should Scream Diva

Are you the type of person that prepares for work the night before? You pick out what brand you want to rock, the colors you want to wear, and the accessories that match. You iron your clothes at night and go over what you need to accomplish at work for the next day.

Maybe you’re the type of person that rolls out of bed and throws a t-shirt and jeans on. Your job may not have a dress code or require you to plan ahead. That’s okay.

Either way, you should always consider your attire when you are getting ready for work. Your outfit could be the difference between moving up or moving out. Just like with your posture, your choice of work attire sends non-verbal cues to others. You could be sending the wrong message to your colleagues, boss, or employees, and not even know it. Your best approach to correct this situation is to think like a diva when choosing your outfits. I don’t mean the textbook definition of diva. That definition is out of date and wrong. I’m talking about the Urban Dictionary definition: a female version of a hustler. A diva knows what she wants and knows how to get it.

Here are 5 reasons why your work outfit should scream diva:

1. You Speak And They Shall Listen

In college, I knew this one girl who’s outfit was always on point. Head to toe, she was flawless. I remember being extremely jealous of how put together she was and every time I saw her, I just asked myself how? I had to choose between going to the bar tonight or eating. Buying cute clothes was not in my budget as a college student. So how could she afford it?

My jealousy soon disappeared when I heard her speak. When she answered a question during class or presented a case study, she made no sense. All of our classmates knew she didn’t know what she was talking about, but our professors soaked up her words like a sponge. The point of this story is when you dress the part and look good, people will listen to what you have to say.

2. You Are Not Afraid To Play Dirty

Divas are not just gorgeous; they are feisty. They know that sometimes you have to play dirty (or get dirty) to get the job done. Being a good Samaritan doesn’t always work out, and karma is not always on the right side. Your work outfit should scream diva because people will know that you mean business and will do anything to succeed.

3. Dress Nice, Feel Nice

You’ve probably heard that if you dress good, you will feel good. Well, it’s true. The right work outfit will empower you. It will make your walk down the hall more like a walk down the runway, at least in your head. Diva is not only instilled in your clothes; it is expressed in your confidence.

4. You Become the Cool Kid

Someone notices your nice shoes and decides to talk to you. Or maybe they notice your unique shirt and want to know where you got it. Your outfit becomes a conversation starter and you begin to build your network of professionals. You never know if the next person you meet will take your career to the next level.

5. You Actually Care

Dressing nicely not only shows that you care about your appearance, it also shows that you care about all aspects of your life. You value your job, your health, and your relationships.
