5 Summer Eye Shadows for the Office

Summer's almost here, which means it's time to give your cosmetics collection a makeover. While there are many great eye shadow trends to follow this season, not all of them are appropriate for the workplace.

Generally, you want to avoid bold and garish colors, instead opting for softer shades intended for daytime use. If you're heading for cocktails after work, you can always add a more vibrant sweep of shadow to your lids, thicken your eyeliner or add another coat of mascara to transition your day look to night. When choosing your shadow, ask yourself if the shade is more day or night appropriate. Certain families of hues draw too much attention at the office, but are perfect for a night out or brunch on the weekends. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean you can't have fun with color or rock the season's hottest shadows.

Here are some great summer shadows that are fashion forward, but not too avant-garde for the Office.

1. bareMinerals eye color in Celestine

This versatile orchid-ivory shade is soft and subtle, but still has a nice hint of sheen. Part of summer's purple trend, it's ideal for the workplace. This shadow offers great coverage and is super easy to blend. You can use a dry brush to create contours or opt for a slightly more dramatic look using a wet brush.

2. Stila Eyeshadow in La Douce

This mossy, olive green with a subtle metallic finish offers amazing coverage, and is neither too light nor dark. It pairs wonderfully with a gold-tinted highlighter, which you can sweep across your brow bone to bring out the hues in this shade.

3. Benefit Creaseless Cream Eye shadow in NoPressure!

This long-lasting, creaseless eye shadow in rich fawn is perfect for the office. It has a nice shimmer and blends well with other shadows. It especially looks great once you start getting that golden glow. You can use your finger to easily apply this creamy shadow or opt for a brush for more intense color.

4.SHISEIDO Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Ice

This silvery blue shadow offers long-lasting, smudge-proof wear for up to 16 hours. It's a sophisticated and elegant take on this season's blue trend. Simply use your finger to sweep this gorgeous shadow across your lids or opt for an eye shadow blending brush for more concentrated coverage.

5.NARS Duo Eye shadow in Isolde

This popular eye shadow duo features a lighter, frosted ginger and a darker, shimmering copper. One of the perks of NARS shadows is that they can be used dry or wet. If you take a wet angled eyeliner brush, you can also use these summer shades as eyeliner. Plus, there's a mirror for convenient, on-the-go touchups.
