1. Begin by Turning Off Facebook

Social media is an energy-sapping experience. It’s like a black hole in that it sucks you into other people’s problems and all the ills of the world. It’s easy to look at your newsfeed and instantly feel that much more depressed.

The problem with Facebook is that it’s also incredibly addicting. It’s why people waste hours every day on it. Make yourself happier by opting for a social media detox, or cutting it away from your life completely. You’ll be amazed at the results!

An easy way to turn off social media is to look online for a popular webpage blocker. Yes, many of them are designed for parents trying to keep their children away from harmful content, but they can be of use to you, too.

2. Why Do You Do What You Do?

We all want to seek some meaning from our lives. When we have no meaning, we have no purpose. When we have no purpose, we can never achieve happiness.

Examine your current job and ask yourself why you’re doing it. Is it a steppingstone on the way to your chosen career or does it allow you to do something you enjoy?

If your job doesn’t match up with your wants and needs, and doesn’t fulfill you, then why don’t you start seeking alternatives?

3. The Laughter Policy

Laughter is what happens when we’re happy. Too many of us don’t dedicate any time to being happy. A long laugh helps to produce neurocognitive effects. In plain English, it will help you de-stress your body. It’s no coincidence that those who are most content with life are those who laugh a lot.

It’s easy to find something to laugh at. Work a funny Internet video into your lunch hour. Laughing a few times a day can have a huge impact.

4. A Good Deed for the Day

Helping someone always makes us feel good. You can utilize this in the workplace. Show some altruism and help someone with a difficult task. If someone is having problems, give them someone to talk to. Even thanking someone for helping you can give you that mental boost that makes the workplace a better environment to be in.

On a side note, a good deed will make the workplace a more pleasurable place for everyone, so you’re not only helping yourself.

5. A 30-Day Challenge

People who don’t have any goals struggle to find any pleasure from their lives. They aren’t going anywhere, so they stagnate, and that has the same influence on their mood. Consider beginning a 30-day challenge. It can be absolutely anything, including finishing a big project or avoiding chocolate during your lunch hour.

Once you get to the end of your challenge, you’ll be so proud of yourself that the high will last for weeks afterwards.

It may even lead to you getting a promotion, which further piles on the happiness!
