The UK is an increasingly popular place for students to study towards a number of different qualifications. Many of the UK’s universities are recognised worldwide as some of the very best education providers and it’s this together with the country’s history and multicultural society that draws students from around the globe.

The British Government together with some UK Universities offer scholarships to international students. Here are just six of the best.

1. Chevening Scholarships

This is the UK government’s international scholarship programme. Scholarships are offered to outstanding students from around the world for postgraduate courses at UK universities.

Full- or part-funding is available for full-time postgraduate Master’s degree courses in any subject and at any university in the UK. The scholarships cover all tuition fees, travel to and from the UK, expenditure grants, and a living allowance.

2. Commonwealth Scholarships

These scholarships are aimed at students from developing countries in the Commonwealth who are seeking to study for a Master’s or a PhD in the UK. The UK Department for International Development funds these scholarships. There are plenty of benefits available for qualifying students in the form of travel to and from the UK, tuition fees, maintenance allowances, thesis grants, and initial arrival allowances.

3. Gates Cambridge Scholarships

These are full-cost awards designed to cover graduate study and research in any subject offered by the University of Cambridge, and are open to all international students. The full cost of studying at Cambridge is covered: all tuition fees, maintenance allowances, travel to and from the UK, and a small dependant’s allowance. Around 100 Gates Scholarships are awarded each year.

4. Rhodes Scholarships at University of Oxford

The Rhodes programme is the oldest and most prestigious international scholarship programme. Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate awards given to truly exceptional students from selected countries. The programme covers all university fees, health insurance, personal stipend and travel to and from the UK. Only 83 Scholarships are awarded every year.

5. Cardiff University Elite International Scholarships

Cardiff University offers this highly prestigious International Scholarship Fund to international students of outstanding talent. The programme is designed to attract and reward only the very best and brightest students. Scholarships are available at undergraduate and postgraduate (Master’s) levels, and cover all tuition fees for the duration of the studies.

6. University of Birmingham Scholarships for International Students

The University of Birmingham offers just 18 individual scholarships aimed at international students studying for a one-year Master’s degree. The scholarship awards £10,000 towards the annual cost of tuition fees. No payment is made for relocation or maintenance costs.
