7 Career Lessons From Barney Stinson

Barney Stinson has taught us many things over the years of How I Met Your Mother, some appropriate but mostly innapropriate. If Barney has taught us anything though it is a few awesome lessons about the workplace and success. This list examines the best of these lessons to help you succeed in your career and the workplace. It’ll be legen, wait for it ...

Lesson 1: Suit Up!

If you want to make an impression in that interview, for a new client or even a new boss, suit up! In business first impressions are everything so take the extra time to pick an outfit that will be sure to impress.

Lesson 2: The Possimpible

Don’t be afraid to market yourself in unique ways, even if that means making your own awesome hybrid word. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box, you might even be viewed as a creative visionary.

Lesson 3: Motivation Can Go A Long Way

Whether you motivate yourself through the use of motivational posters like Barney or in some other way it is always important to remember not to get complacent in the workplace.

Lesson 4: Never Take A Bad Photo

It will come back to haunt you. Seriously, with the emergence of social media the first place a potential employer will look is online, so you don’t want embarrassing photos on your profiles. Just imagine what a future employer would think if their first impression of you was of a drunken night out.

Lesson 5: Be Confident

Second guess yourself and your employers will generally do the same. Be that go getter that is confident because everyone knows that they’re always the ones first in line for promotion.

Lesson 6: Make The Best Of A Bad Situation

If Barney could wear the ducky tie for as long as he did, anybody can make the best of a bad situation. For those of you who are not well versed in the How I Met Your Mother world the ducky tie was in relation to a bet that Barney lost and he was required to wear the tie above for one year. Regardless of what your bad situtation is I’m sure you can relate, just remember that there is a silver lining to every situation no matter how sucky it may be and try to make the best out of it.

Lesson 7: Accept Challenges That Come Your Way

Don’t be closed minded when it comes to the workplace, especially when it comes to new challenges or hurdles. By doing so you might just prove your worth to your employer and get that promotion you’ve been dreaming of. In the words of Barney Stinson "Challenge Accepted".

With these 7 lessons from Barney Stinson you are sure to take the workplace by storm and be a success that everyone is envious of.
