7 Steps to the Perfect CV

CV writing is something most of us dread as getting it spot on is a challenging yet necessary task in achieving job seeker success. Here are some simple steps on how to write the perfect CV...

Keep it genuine

Never, ever lie on your CV. Recruiters do research candidates and if you ended getting the job through gritted teeth, then when they find out you lied, your job will be on the line.

Also, by lying, you’ll be applying for a job that’s out of your league, which ultimately you won’t end up enjoying or being any good at. So stay genuine, always be honest and keep it real!

Tailor it

Every job seeker should tailor their CV to the specific job they’re applying for. So while you can have a basic structure set up and ready, you should always adapt it to be completely relevant to the job you’re after.

Include a personal statement

Write a short, snappy personal statement at the top of your CV explaining why you are the best person for the position. Keep it simple, engaging and interesting.

Explain any gaps

Gaps aren’t exactly embraced by recruiters, but if they’re well explained and legitimate, then you have nothing to worry about. Clearly explaining the reasons for your gaps is important, otherwise employers will immediately disregard your application.

Keep it current

Keep your CV completely up to date. So if you’ve just completed a computer software course, be sure to list it on your CV. Eliminate any unnecessary or outdated jobs or qualifications. So if you haven’t done it already, you really need to take down that certificate you obtained as kid.

Check and check again

Fine-tooth-comb your CV or better still, get another pair of eyes on the case for you. A CV with spelling or grammar mistakes will immediately be sent to the NO pile, so improve your chances of job seeker success by taking this very simple yet very effective step.

Last but not least, don’t forget SEO

Keywords are crucial in today’s multimedia society. No doubt when applying for jobs you will be uploading your CV online, so including relevant keywords is essential in helping recruiters to find you.
