Everybody wants something out from this life, whether this is success, money or happiness. The real challenge, however, is how you go about getting it. Do you feel you are prepared enough to take the next step and further your career? Are you sure you are in the right path to success? How can you tell if the last decisions you have made will have a positive impact on your future?

While these three questions are relatively difficult to answer, you can still make sure that you are working towards the right direction that’s in line with your life goals by following these seven simple strategies.

1. See the big picture

Despite the fact that the smallest steps you take every day count toward completing your biggest goals, what really matters is seeing the big picture. Instead of focusing on the details and small things in life, focus on what’s really important and find out what truly matters to you. Whatever the case, don’t give up your energy doing unnecessary tasks and make some plans on how you are going to get those things you want out of your life.

Have a look at the video above to watch Jim Ridge explain how you, too, can practice big picture thinking and be more productive in your life.

2. Believe in yourself

Self-confidence can give your chances of success a boost of about 80 percent. As step one to going after what you want, you have to be able to believe you can do it, and that you have the right skills and abilities to do it. If it helps, think about this: ‘Only you are in charge of your dreams and only you alone can make them happen, so start believing in yourself today’. In a way, having some faith in yourself is a necessity as it keeps you motivated and allows you to move forward.

3. Stop apologizing

True leaders have nothing to apologize for. For them, the only way to success is going after what they believe in and asking for the things they want. While you would think this is selfish, in reality, it’s not. This is all about respecting yourself and having the courage to ask other people to give you what you want. So, let’s say you are after a promotion, your superiors at work won’t know that until you tell them. Whatever the case, stand for what you believe in and stop apologizing for wanting to do great things in life.

4. Be persistent

Life is pretty tough and if you are not willing to go the distance, it means that you are not ready to go after your dreams. Along the way, you will come across many barriers that will prevent you from doing what you want, and persistence is what’s going to help you move forward. Don’t let failure consume you, and try to be consistent so that every day you are doing a little something that will bring you closer to achieving your goals.

Look at what Brendon Burchard has to say about sustaining hope and staying true to your goals through the video above.

5. Write it down

Write down what it is that you want from your life and your wish will be granted. When you express your thoughts in writing, they are far more powerful. Not only that, but they also stick to your mind and you are reminded why you are chasing after your goals every time you look at them, and your willpower strengthens day by day. So, in order for this strategy to be effective, you have to write your goals down on a piece of paper and keep it next to your bed so that, when you read it every morning, it gives you the courage to carry on.

6. Follow your intuition

In order to achieve your goals, you are definitely going to need a good support network. People along the way will offer you their help, but you will need to be in the position to distinguish between the ones who are there for you and those who are just trying to take advantage of the situation. If you want to be successful, you should welcome other people’s suggestions but, in the end, only your intuition can be trusted. This will help you make quicker and more effective decisions, and turn your mistakes into valuable lessons.

7. Visualize it

You only get what you want when you visualize it first. If you can imagine yourself on top of that mountain, it means you’re already halfway to conquering your dreams. The power of visualization can actually prepare you for success and encourage you to do great things along the way. In fact, several studies have shown that thoughts can be as powerful as actions. In that sense, they can be as effective as actions since they both have the same impact on the cognitive processes of the brain including attention, planning, perception, and memory.
