Becoming a Senior Technical Officer in Malta

If you are interested in gaining employment within Malta’s public sector and have the skills and experience to become a Senior Technical Officer, then the following information will act as a guide.

 

As a Senior Technical Officer you will be working in the Maintenance Directorate department within Malta’s public service. A qualified technical officer can earn an initial starter salary of €15,021 per annum, which rises by annual increments of €375.17 up to a maximum of €17,272. Subject to satisfactory performance, a Senior Technical Officer will progress to one of the highest scales (Scale 10 with the highest being Scale 11) within a 5 year period of service.

 

In order to become a qualified Senior Technical Officer, individuals will need to hold a Higher Technical Diploma or similarly recognized qualification. Individuals with proven experience stand a better chance of gaining employment at this level.

 

Successful officers will be responsible for:

  • Managing the district office

  • Allocating a human resources department

  • Keeping ledgers and inventories in order

  • Preparing samples of materials for testing

  • Maintaining control of all district personnel regarding attendance and delivery of works

  • Interpreting architectural and structural drawings

  • Ensuring all activity carried out by the Human Resources department is cost-effective

  • Performing any other duties according to instructions as given by superiors
