Becoming a Teacher in Bulgaria

If you are interested in becoming a teacher in Bulgaria you will first need to pass the relevant examinations and legal requirements. Both Bulgarian citizens and foreigners can become teachers of Bulgaria, though it is essential that the correct tests are passed prior to receiving your teaching certification.

Before receiving your teaching certification you must ensure that you have not:

  • Been convicted for intentional crime

  • Been deprived of the right to exercise your profession

  • Suffered from a disease included by the Ministry of Health in a list with diseases that could threaten the life or health of the students

Once you have passed the above requirements you will then obtain the correct professional qualification from an institution that has been approved by the Higher Education Act. The following qualifications can be received:

  • Bachelors degree

  • Masters degree

  • Specialist Degrees

  • Certification for the professional qualification of a teacher.

As a qualified teacher you will be required to teach a range of levels, competencies and preferences in the style of learning of a particular audience.

Teaching in Bulgaria is a rewarding experience. Students are passionate about learning and there are plenty of resources that teachers can use to make lessons as interesting and dynamic as possible. In recent years Bulgaria has also introduced a number of community initiatives at a range of educational levels, to ensure that students receive a thorough educational experience.
