How to Enhance Your Business Using a Smartphone

Nowadays, millions of people all over the world own smartphones. Besides communication, most of these people use their devices predominantly for entertainment. However, smartphones can also be very valuable tools for business. With a few helpful apps installed, your mobile device can significantly enhance your productivity.

Here are some of the different ways you can use smartphones for business:

1. Staying organized

Smartphones can be very useful tools for managing your to-do lists, schedules and emails. Some of the best organizing apps for your smartphone include TeuxDeux, Evernote, Sparrow and Any Time Organizer Deluxe.

2. Document scanning

Nowadays, you don’t have to carry with you hard copies of documents such as business cards, contracts, notes or receipts. All you need to do is install a scanner app such as DocScanner or CamScanner on your smartphone. Once this is done, you can use the mobile device’s camera to scan and save documents. These documents can then be emailed, tagged or uploaded to cloud storage.

3. Multi-person texting

If you want to send a message to several people instantly, the best method to use is text messaging. Unlike email, texting enables you to communicate in real-time with the recipients. There are several apps that allow you to send group text to your employees or customers. This includes GroupMe, WhatsApp and BlackBerry Messsenger.

4. Document reader

A smartphone, just like a tablet, can come in very handy as an e-reader. Apps such as Aldiko Book Reader, Cool Reader and FBReader allow you to read documents such as business journals directly from your smartphone. This way, you can keep yourself updated on the latest developments in your industry.

5. Desktop remote control    

In this day and age, you don’t have to be seated at your desk to conduct business. There are several mobile applications that allow you to remotely access the files on your desktop. This includes LogMeIn Ignition, Jump Desktop, Splashtop Remote Desktop and PocketCloud app. Such applications can be very useful especially when you are traveling.

6. Cloud computing

Smartphone users can use cloud services such as IBM Cloud, Telstra Cloud Services and Skyscape Cloud to store and access important business documents remotely. Since you don’t have to save sensitive files in your mobile device, cloud storage lowers the risk of security infringement. In addition, cloud storage allows multiple users to access documents from various geographical locations.

7. Dictation

Nowadays, many smartphones come with some audio recording features. In addition, you could also install dictation apps such as Dragonspeak, Olympus Dictation App andPocket Dictate. With such apps, you can easily record, organize and send notes to recipients.

8. Video conferencing

With today’s technology, you don’t have to travel physically to have a business meeting with anyone. Instead, you can simply use your smartphone to hold a video conference from any location. Some of the smartphone applications for video conferencing include ooVoo, Skype, Tango, Hangouts and Peer.
