Fashion Faults of Interview Candidates

Your big day has almost arrived (your interview, not your wedding day), and the nerves are beginning to set in. You have prepared answers to expected interview questions, you have thought up creative and interesting questions to ask the recruiter, and you have memorized your resume by heart, but ... you have not even thought about your ensemble! For those of you who are not so fashionably aware, your outfit is by no means something that should be over looked, especially on job interview day.

Knowing what to wear and what not to wear is essential in making a good first imperssion. No matter how amazing your skills are, you will always be judged on first impressions – so why risk a bad first impression because of a poorly put together ensemble?

Do not risk falling victim to some of these dastardly fashion faults:

MEN

  • No tie, or worse, a brightly colored/cartoon style tie
  • Grubby facial hair
  • Poorly fitted suit
  • White socks with black shoes
  • Shoes with no shine
  • Creased shirt and trousers
  • Mismatching colors (your suit jacket and trousers must match)
  • Accessories are a big no. Men should avoid jewelry unless it is a wedding ring or watch
  • Jeans or denim of any description
  • Caps and bowler hats, in fact, avoid all types of hats unless it is or religious reasons

WOMEN

  • Showing too much skin
  • Low cut tops
  • Over accessorizing the outfit
  • Flat shoes
  • Ladder in your tights
  • Clashing colors (if you are wearing a suit, make it match!)
  • Out of control hair (keep hair tied up if its long)
  • Avoid spraying too much perfume
  • Streaky fake tan
