How to find a Job in an Executive Branch Agency in the UK

Very few people are selected for positions in the executive branch of the government because it is a sensitive field that requires the highest level of professional qualifications and personal integrity. Government offers you various exciting and challenging opportunities for work. Working in the executive branch is satisfying as you will be at the peak of your career and have a rewarding professional qualification. Furthermore, it is a stable field, with guaranteed long-term employment, income and benefits.

The following are ways you’re guaranteed to obtain employment within the government and gain an impressive amount of work experience.

Look at Newspapers and Government Websites

This should be your initial port of entry as most government offices will advertise available positions in their executive office on their websites. You could also look at newspapers as they are the traditional and more conventional mode of advertising within executive branch offices. Be sure to take down appropriate information as each department is looking for different things.

Networking

Learning about available positions in the Executive Branch is extremely difficult. In addition to this, applications are numerous and extremely competitive. You need to do more than just submit a good application. You’ll find it helpful to have a good list of reliable contacts within government administration who can always inform you about job openings. You should also build a good rapport with them so that you can obtain recommendations from them, in order to make your application more credible.

Work within the Right Fields

Executive branch agencies are involved in fields such as legislature, government and leadership. If you are considering a career in the executive branch, and hope to climb the executive ladder, you should consider fields associated with these. Take up leadership roles at your workplace or work in administration. Once you’ve gained sufficient experience in legislature, administration and leadership, you are likely to find a suitable executive position to fill within the government.

Ensure You have a Good Background

Working in the executive branch means that you are the face and voice of administration in the government. This requires the highest level of credentials and integrity and if you’re selected you have to not only be an upstanding citizen, but morally upright. It is important to ensure you have no past misdemeanours or a background that may otherwise embarrass the administration should they offer you employment.

Have a Good Personal Statement

Represent yourself well. Your personal statement elaborates details in your curriculum vitae. In it, you should highlight your intentions and how you intend to apply your skills to the Executive Branch. Show what value you hope to add to it and what experience you hope to gain. You also have to illustrate a willingness to serve and provide.

Although the executive branch is one of the best fields to work in, it is demanding and you’ll find yourself putting in long hours and working at an intense pace. Working with passion and consistency is an advantage. Your efforts will be noticed and rewarded.
