France Supports Small Farming Irrigation Schemes

The French government has provided financial support to an institution which manufactures irrigation tools for small farmers in Tanzania to undertake small scale irrigation in Mwanza and Morogoro regions.

A Dar es Salaam –based “Kickstart, The tools to End Poverty” has been granted Tsh. 160 millions to promote agricultural irrigation in the two regions by supporting farmer groups which undertaking small scale irrigation schemes.

An agreement to provide a grant in support of small scale irrigation schemes has been signed the 4th of November between the French Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Jacques Champagne de Labriolle on behalf of the French government and the Country Director for Kickstart, Mr. Alfred Wise.

The irrigation firm will conducts demonstrations to small farmers organised in SACCOS or in farmers’ group on the usage of water pumps for irrigation and provide technical assistance and training to farmers in the pilot-regions.

The main objective is to o provide irrigation pumps to more than 10,000 irrigation-farmers in the two targeted region with an intention to promote farmers’ incomes and food security of farmers in marginalised areas.
