How to Get an Internship at Volkswagen

The Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. is a subsidiary of Volkswagen, AG and it was founded in 1955.Volkswagen is one of the world’s leading automobile manufacturers and it is currently the largest car maker located in Europe. Volkswagen Group of America is headquartered in Herndon, VA. There is a US manufacturing plant in Chattanooga, TN. The Volkswagen group manufactures competitive environmentally sound automobiles. Internships are currently available through the Volkswagen Group of America’s Internship program. This article will address how to get an internship at this company.

College or university students or recent graduates who are seeking possible long-term employment at Volkswagen need to have various other skillsets and fulfill certain requirements. Interns in the program need to have a readiness to obtain real-world work experience in the automotive industry while focusing on developing their professional career. On-the-job training is provided as well as the opportunity to discover possible career opportunities with the company early on. Internship projects range from tasks like planning auto shows to developing a creative marketing strategy to assisting with the organization of new vehicle launches to budgeting and cost and market analyses. Interns are given the opportunity to work on various projects, complete assigned tasks and learn how to further develop various analytical skills. Interns receive training from various levels in the company and have the opportunity to attend training classes and tech talks.

Internship opportunities are available in the following locations: Virginia, Michigan, California, Colorado, Tennessee and Florida. All of the locations provide interns with a unique and professional workplace environment. Internship Application Process

All interested individuals should submit an application form through Volkswagen’s Corporate Career Site. It is important that each application be accompanied by a resume and cover letter. Applications are accepted throughout the year on a rolling basis. Generally, new internship openings are posted online one to three months before the actual program start date.

Internship Program Requirements

In order to be eligible to apply for an internship, an applicant is required to be enrolled in a college or university. The applicant’s graduation date cannot be more than six months prior to the actual internship program starting date. All applicants who are enrolled in any Associates, Bachelor’s, Master’s, MBA or PhD program in the US or around the globe are eligible to apply. The internship programs run for a term of three to six month, and are paid, part-time or full-time. There is the option to extend the internship up to a period of twelve months. Some further requirements are listed below.

  • Highly motivated individuals
  • Energized individuals
  • Goal-oriented and ambitious
  • Ability to learn new skills and concepts
  • Ability to learn new processes and computer applications
  • Strong interest in automotive industry

Additional requirements may vary from department to department. Some of those requirements often include proficiency in the following: Microsoft Office, General vehicle knowledge, and coursework which is related to the field.
