Your relationship with your boss can make or break your career!
It may sound a bit ridiculous, but the truth is that your boss has many opportunities to endorse specific employees or recommend them for promotions, special considerations, or better positions. If you have proven your worth to your boss AND you have a good relationship with them, you stand a much better chance of being that "specific employee".

Here are some tips to help you improve your relationship with your boss:
1. Prove your worth
The boss is not going to waste his/her time and effort on someone who has no value to them or the company. They’re only going to work with those who prove that they have something to offer. Make yourself an invaluable member of the team and you will stand a much better chance of getting along with the boss.
2. Put yourself in their shoes
What challenges do they face as the boss? How can you help them deal with their problems? Anticipating the needs of your boss isn’t the same as sucking up, but it’s proving that you understand what they go through as the leader of your team or company. It shows you have what it takes to be a boss as well!
3. Help them look good
Give the boss the credit even if it belongs to you. Speak positively about your boss to others. Don’t correct them in front of others, but do it in private if you must. Helping your boss keep their work reputation intact will go a long way towards cementing your relationship with them.
4. Ask for feedback
Ask your boss how you’re doing at work or how you could improve. If they feel like they are your mentor or someone whose opinion you respect, it will endear you to them.
5. Offer to help out
Does your boss have a mountain of paperwork or a to-do list that’s way too long? See if you can help them with their problems or their work, and they will appreciate it. Don’t do it expecting anything in return, but just help because it’s the best way to get on a good footing with the boss.
6. Get to know them outside of work
It may feel weird going out for drinks with your boss, but it’s a good way to get to know him/her. You don’t even have to go out with them, but ask them about their hobbies, interests and passions. If you show interest in them, it will help them like you more.
7. Deliver more than you promise
It’s okay to promise less and deliver more, but NEVER the other way around. If your boss has lower expectations of you, when you actually come through early, it will help you look a whole lot better!
8. Be friendly and genuine
Everyone hates a suck-up, but everyone loves a friendly person who is genuinely interested in what they have to say.
9. Keep the lines of communication open
Have a meeting with your boss every few weeks, just to keep them abreast of your progress. It will give you a chance to seek advice, build a rapport with them, and improve your relationship.
