Passion is an intense emotion that can drive people to do things they never thought were possible. When you are passionate about a cause, a person, or accomplishing a task you will stop at nothing. And if you can make others feel passionate about the same topic, the sky is the limit to what you can accomplish. However, how can you inspire passion in others without looking like you are a few bananas short of a fruit salad?
1. You Need to Care
This may seem obvious, but you would be surprised how many people think they can fake passion and get away with it. Enthusiasm is contagious but people aren’t stupid. They can tell when you are trying to act excited when really you couldn’t care less.
If you want to inspire passion, you need to find legitimate reasons to care about the cause. If you think others should be excited about a cause or be passionate about taking a company to the next level, why aren’t you motivated? If you don’t give care, there must be a reason why and maybe you shouldn’t try to push others to be concerned if you aren’t.
2. Act Like You Care
Okay, so you really do care about Doctors without Borders or making XYZ Company the next Apple. What are you going to do about it? It isn’t enough to feel passionate about something or inspire others to act, you need to get up off your butt and work for it. Write blog posts, share articles on social media, donate your time. You don’t need to make grand gestures, but if people see you constantly doing something to support the object of your passion, they are more likely to see its value.
3. Live Like You Care
If you want others to feel passionate, you need to live a passionate life. You need to live as if you care and not just about abused animals or children starving in Africa. You need to live a passionate life. Care deeply, love hard, work hard, play hard and give 100% to everything you do. Not only will this improve your quality of life, it will also inspire others to live passionately and do more for causes they believe in.
4. Care About Others
People won’t care about you or your passion if you don’t treat them with respect. Care about what people think and feel. Really listen to others and what they are passionate about. Care about others if you want others to care about you. It’s a Golden Rule for a reason and it will help you inspire people to be passionate about causes, organizations or topics you want to see succeed.
5. Why Should Others Care?
You may live a passionate life, care about others and support the object of your passion with your time and money. This doesn’t mean that others should simply take your word for it that your cause is worthwhile. If you want people to care, you have to give them good reasons why. You also have to show them that what they do will make a difference.
Many people are afraid to be passionate about something or act on that passion because they think their small efforts won’t have any effect. When you inspire passion in others, you need to show them how they can help and how their actions will bring positive results. Then you are not only inspiring passion, but also action.
Passion is a positive tool to accomplish difficult tasks. When used correctly, inspiring passion in others can spread information about a cause and help meet important goals. But if you want people to care about what you feel passionate about, you have to be avid about the cause, be proactive and care about other people. Otherwise, you won’t inspire passion in others, you will only inspire contempt.
