What? You are really busy and don’t have enough time to waste? Well, worry not as the following mistakes you are making can be fixed in just five minutes.

Weird URL

Have you seen your LinkedIn URL lately? I bet there is a series of unknown numbers at the end of it. Not very catchy for a URL, right? You can now change your LinkedIn URL and make it unique and professional and ready to be used on your email signatures or even business cards. You can easily customize it by pressing the “Edit Profile” button. Click on the gear symbol next to your URL on the right-hand side and this is where a page with your public profile URL pops up; you can change your link there. You can use your first and last name to make it short, catchy and professional.

Mysterious Identity

Is there something to hide? Are you a CIA agent? If you haven’t uploaded a photo on your profile, then others will instantly assume things about you that probably aren’t true. People tend to communicate better when they can put a face on the person they are talking to. If you want to make a good first impression, then all you need to do is upload a professional photo and stop missing out on other professional opportunities due to your mysterious identity.

You Are a Hermit

As previously said, LinkedIn is a professional networking platform that lets you build your professional network. Therefore, it is crucial that you actually make the effort to engage with your network. Being an introvert or a shy person is not an excuse on LinkedIn; you don’t have to directly reach out to them. There are so many little ways to connect with others in your network such as congratulating them on their new job, work anniversary or recent success.

Memory of a Goldfish

Do you really remember every single person that you meet at industry events? What about your empowering and strong conversations that you had two years ago? Well, don’t feel bad, it’s normal not to remember every single thing. Well, why not take advantage of the LinkedIn relationship tab? This tab is here to solve all your memory challenges!

All you need to do is get into the habit of putting the right information in the relationship tab whenever you try to connect with someone new. This will eventually appear when you click on their profile. You can also add little notes as triggers of your conversations. Or, you can set up a reminder to talk to them in a month, week or whenever you deem appropriate. The best thing is that you are the only one who can see those notes so you can practically add anything you wish. Try and keep it professional for your own sake!
