How to Make an Income from Your Music Site

Everyone involved in the music business should have their own website. This includes bands, musicians, music managers or record producers. Having a music website is one of the best ways of attracting new fans and keeping them engaged. Besides, it can also be a great way of making money.

Here are some of the ways you can generate some income from your music website:

1. Selling affiliate products

Affiliate marketing involves selling products which belong to someone else. There are many people out there who are looking for ways of exposing their product to new audiences. If you have a significant number of followers, you could choose to promote some affiliate products to them. It would be advisable to promote products that you have actually used yourself. This could be microphones, musical instruments, head phones or laptops. Since your fans look up to you, they might want to use the product themselves.

All you need to do is refer people to the site where they can buy it. The owner of the product handles everything concerning manufacturing, shipping and customer care. When the person you refer clicks on your link and makes a purchase, you are paid a percentage of that sale.

2. Selling your own products

One of the best ways of making money from your site is by selling your own products. This could be CDs or digital downloads of your music. It could also be merchandise such as such as hats, posters, t-shirts or other memorabilia which you can sell from your site. To enhance your chances of making sales, make sure your products are valuable to your fans and of high quality. You could also consider selling concert tickets on your site. If you choose to use a third party site to sell the tickets, be sure to include a link to it from your site.

3. Selling a service

You can use your website to promote some of the services you offer personally. For instance, if you play a musical instrument, you can offer lessons on your site. There are probably several people in your fan base who would be interested to learn how to play like you. Some of these individuals would actually be ready to pay for lessons taught face-to-face or even through Skype. Make sure the services offered on your site are relevant to your fans. For example, promoting cooking lessons would be deviating from the purpose of your site.

4. Advertising

Many major websites globally use advertising as a way of generating income. If someone feels that your music website is a good fit for their service or products, they might be willing to advertise on it. The most common type of advert is the banner advert which can be placed near the top or bottom of your page, on in the sidebar. Besides your site, you could also offer to advertise on your social profiles or mailing list. If you have a significant fan base, people would be willing to pay for a sponsored tweet or a banner in your mailing list. The more fans you have, the more you will be able to charge for your adverts.

These are just some of the ways you can generate income from your site. Choose what works best for you.
