How to Make the Most of Old Blog Posts

Anyone who has been blogging for some time probably has a whole load of posts in their blog’s archive. Many bloggers have the tendency to forget about their old posts and instead focus on publishing new material. However, the material in your blog’s archives can be very beneficial if used properly. Here are some things you could do to make the most of your old posts.

1. Update the Posts in Your archives

One of the best ways of reviving your old posts is by updating them to ensure that they remain relevant. Since it might be impossible to update all the old posts, you could focus on a few which attracted a lot of traffic. Updating posts in your archives could involve eliminating outdated content, fixing dead links or even totally overhauling the post. Having relevant content on your old posts will attract more traffic and encourage your visitors to share it with others. After updating the post, you could consider inserting a current date of publication.

2. Add Shareable Graphics and Images

When it comes to social media, images, photos and graphics are very important. Sites like Google+, Twitter and Facebook, have become increasingly visual while others like Pinterest are primarily photo-oriented. Therefore, adding graphics and images to your old posts can make them more appealing and shareable. Choose posts that already receive a good amount of traffic since they are more likely to generate some shares. Don’t forget to share the revitalized post on your own social media profiles.

3. Link to Your Old Posts in Your Emails

Nowadays, many blog owners create email lists using services such as MailChimp or GetResponse. Such a list can be very important for building relationships with your subscribers and promoting your products. However, the success of a mailing list depends on the responsiveness of the subscribers. If no one opens your emails or clicks on the links inside, your list is useless. Therefore, you need to find a way of enhancing the responsiveness of your subscribers. One of the best ways of doing this is ensuring your emails offer valuable resources, tips and information. You can enhance the value of your emails by adding links to your old and helpful posts where readers can get more information. This is likely to increase traffic to your blog.

4. Link to Your Own Posts in Guest Posts

One of the best ways of getting more exposure and visibility for your old posts is by writing a guest post for another blog and linking the post in your archives. Make sure the link adds value to the guest post. In addition, take time to update old posts to ensure that they are still relevant to the readers. Depending on the policy of the blog, the link could be placed within the body of the guest post or in the author bio.

5. Share Your Archived Posts on Social Media

Sharing links to old posts in social media is a great way of breathing new life into them. This is because some of your connections have probably never read the posts. You can use tools such as HootsuiteBuffer and SocialOomph to create and schedule messages and tweets with links to posts in your archives.
