Making Use of the HR Department

HR Department

As companies grow, they will need to incorporate a HR department into their workforce. The role of the HR department is an important one, as it handles all personnel aspects of your company, along with training, paying and benefits for your employees. Essentially, the HR department is responsible for managing an organization’s workforce, in compliance with the relevant employment and labor laws.

Recruitment

The recruitment process is often a long-winded and time-consuming one that is difficult for a busy manager or department to keep on top of. Thus, employing a HR department will enable you to move this responsibility away from yourselves, to focus on other responsibilities.

The role of the HR department is not simply to find potential candidates; they are there to schedule and carry out interviews, to recruit individuals, to collate the necessary documentation of new candidates and to fire where necessary. Their role in recruitment is expansive and includes being responsible for integrating and orienting new employees into the company, and ensuring that all information regarding personnel is completely up to date.

To carry out training

The HR department is also able to carry out training sessions on behalf of your company. They can help you with company sponsored training programs, seminars and lectures. They can hold seminars related to topics such as Time Management, Conflict Management or Effective Communication. As a manager, you can dictate to the HR department what training needs to be completed and where/when the training should take place.

To guide

Many large companies are constantly changing and evolving and it is often difficult for employees to keep up with such changes and understand them. HR departments can offer their knowledge and expertise on such benefits and guide employees in the right direction. The HR department is also useful for dealing with grievances. Typically, anyone who works in an HR department must have excellent people skills, as the HR department is essentially a department that deals with people on a day-to-day basis. As a company you will undoubtedly encounter staff difficulties or complaints and it is essential to have a professional system in place for dealing with these matters. An HR department can assist you in effectively resolving these matters.

Notifications

The HR department is essentially the mediator between employees and employers. They are able to notify staff with regards to the latest news, events or company activities that are taking place within the company. Again, this alleviates the pressure on management and enables you to focus on other important activities.

To take payroll

An HR department can take on the responsibility of taking care of payroll, rather than this activity being executed by the accounts department. If you run a busy company and prefer that this responsibility be handled by a different department, then it is recommended to hire an HR department.
