Police Careers in Slovenia

To join the police force in Slovenia, applicants must successfully complete the relevant training programs at the Police Academy. Slovenia’s Police Academy was established as an internal organizational agency of the General Police Directorate to prepare, train and educate individuals seeking to become qualified police officers. The academy was established in 2000 and has become a center of excellence with regards to police training and study programs. It should be noted that all internal organizational rules, regulations, job classifications, education and training requirements are stipulated in the Police Act, 1 April 2000.

Main objective of the Police Academy:

  • Provide professional training for employee of the police

  • Enable police officers to perform their jobs competently through continued support and training programs

There are several units operating under the Police Academy, these include:

  • Police College: This is a 2 year training and study program available to eligible applicants seeking to become police inspectors.

  • Training centre: Provides specialist training courses.

  • Police High School: This center is available to individuals who have completed 4 years at secondary school level, and comprises of an 18 month training program.

  • Police Officers School

  • Security and Support Division

  • Top Athletes

  • Service Dogs Training Section

Working for the police force in Slovenia is a sought after career path for many due to the attractive employment contracts, scope for progression, and training opportunities available. Candidates should be aware of the types of responsibilities they will face, if they are successful in joining the national police force.

The National Police Force’s primary responsibilities:

  • Act to protect the lives and property of citizens

  • Prevent and deter criminal activity

  • Investigate penal acts and minor offences

  • Arrest offenders

  • Maintain and enforce public order

  • Control traffic on roads

  • Control state borders
