Public Service Commission of Kenya

The Public Service Commission of Kenya (PSCK) has a number of core functions; however, the main purpose of the commission is to recruit for public service and local authorities in Kenya. There are a broad range of responsibilities which call under the scope of the PSCK, some of which include:

-          General recruitment of civil servants

-          Promotion of public officers

-          Disciplinary control

-          Establishment and implementation of standards

-          Civil service examinations

Individuals interested in a career as a civil servant in Kenya will be recruited by the PSCK and will be monitored according to PSCK regulations and standards. It is therefore advisable to gain an understanding of the obligations and rights of civil servants as provided for by the PSCK.

Article 234 of the Constitution provides the functions and powers of the PSCK, which include:

-          Establishing offices in the public service

-          Appointing persons in public office

-          Monitor and administer personnel practices in the public sector

-          Ensure the public service operates efficiently and effectively

Individuals who are interested in working for the PSCK can apply for the available vacancies listed on the official PSCK website. Applicants who would like to pursue an active career as a Commission Secretary for the Public Service Commission will be expected to perform the following duties:

-          Execute decisions of the commission

-          Act as the accounting officer of the commission with respect to finance and annual plans

-          Conduct day to day administration of the commission

-          Maintain records of the commission

-          Provide strategic leadership to facilitate the delivery of the commission’s mandate

Eligible candidates for positions as a Commission Secretary for the PSCK must:

-          Be a Kenya citizen

-          Possess a degree certificate from a recognized university in Kenya

-          Have 10 years relevant experience
