Reasons to Delete the Facebook Mobile App

Facebook has quickly grown to be one of the most important communication tools that the average person possesses. It is used for everything from socializing, to logging into web services. Many people do not even keep phone numbers anymore, instead relying on Facebook to plug in the data when they log into it on their phones.

However, all of this comes at a price. Privacy and peace of mind are sacrificed at the altar of a company which views its users as the product, whose information is to be sold to advertisers for the highest dollar possible. When you minimize your usage of Facebook, you are stating that your personal information is worth more than a shiny trinket, they will have to pay for it.

Here are some reasons why it is a good idea to remove the Facebook Mobile App from your phone today.

It monitors everything

Facebook made the news frequently over the last year, for the inclusion of code that will enable it to access your camera and microphone whenever you access the program. While it is inactive for now, it is only a matter of time before an advertiser offers the company enough money to turn it on. Imagine, receiving an advertisement for aspirin when your mention having a headache while replying to a Facebook Message...

It is a power hog

Any application that is active constantly will drain your phone battery. Facebook is constantly sending messages back to its main server, asking for updates. This forces your cellular antennae to be active on a constant basis, robbing you of hours of battery life. If you are in a situation where you cannot keep your phone on a charger, it is vital that you get rid of this application. Remember – your information is the product, as such Facebook will never let go of an opportunity to collect it.

Facebook forces dependency

Facebook has become one of the most popular ways for people to share contact information, creating a situation where you are forced to keep the application. This situation forces you to place your personal information in the hands of a company that exists solely to collect and sale such tidbits of knowledge to advertisers.

Remove this program, and utilize traditional means to manage your cellphone contact list. For instance, you can still view the numbers online. Input them manually, and keep Facebook from learning who you are calling, and when you call them.

It is addictive

People love gossip, to the point where all else is set aside. Facebook understands this, and makes a point of having its ’news feed’ available through these apps. The goal is to keep you online, and posting information that the company can sell to advertisers. Remember, everything this company does, is designed to make you freely give them personal information that can be used in directed advertising. Do not make their job easier, and minimize the amount of time you will be spending with this company. Additionally, you may find that you have more free time, since you can get your work done more quickly without the distractions.

Facebook is a company designed to collect personal information and sell it to advertising firms. It does this by creating a series of services designed to mesh well with its product’s (the general public) lives. Minimize the opportunities that this company has to collect information about yourself, and restore your sense of privacy. After all, a few extra seconds saving a phone number is worth keeping your personal information out of the hands of advertisers, right?
