Romania Police Force

The Romanian National Police is the primary civil law enforcement service in Romania. The national police force is responsible to the Ministry of Administration and Interior, and as such, careers in the police force are considered civil service/government positions.

Responsibilities of the national police in Romania include but are not limited to:

  • Protect citizen’s rights and property

  • Work to prevent and deter criminal activity

  • Investigate crimes

  • Maintain public law and order

  • Ensure public safety

Individuals who wish to join the Romanian National Police are required to satisfy a number of conditions before entry to a police-training academy can be achieved.

There are four main police training centers in Romania:

Basic curriculum taught at Romanian police training schools include:

  • Criminal law

  • Constitutional law

  • Forensics

  • Road legislation

  • Legal protection of human rights

  • Police tactics

  • Preventing and combating crime

  • Criminology

  • IT

  • Physical education

  • Languages

The primary objective of the police academies in Romania is to prepare and train individuals on all aspects relating to public safety and law and order. This extends to ensuring students acquire the necessary knowledge on crime, relationship skills, analysis of human behavior and self defense guards. Upon graduation of a police academy, individuals can enter the national police force as qualified police officers.
