SEO: Best Ranking Techniques For Your Website

Google SEO

These days, website owners are having a difficult time coping with SEO updates. Out of frustration, people look for loopholes in the system, making their online strategy extremely complex.

The reality is that SEO plans are supposed to be straightforward and simple.

An elaborate plan to get around the system is hard to execute, increasing the risk of failure. The truth is, all you need is a better understanding of how algorithms work. By knowing what to prioritize, you'll be able to build a strong foundation that can withstand search engine updates.

A Crash Course on Algorithm Updates

Google is made up of millions of algorithms to determine which websites are relevant to a specific search. Apart from relevancy, various algorithms rank search engine results based on a number of major underlying factors. Google algorithms are constantly being updated at a rapid rate. There is an average of 500 minor changes made to the algorithm annually. It is important to take note that out of the numerous updates; at least 4 are considered to be major.

Google algorithms are updated to dictate and cater to the flow of the online search engine market. Instead of SEO companies setting the trend, Google keeps everyone on their toes, which promotes innovation and healthy competition. More importantly, Google algorithms are not just out to make it harder for websites to rank high in searches, but also to ensure that the websites that are ranking high deserve it.

PageRank and Other Variables

The most important part of the Google algorithm is the PageRank system. This known as the process that Google uses to determine how high a website should be in the search engine results page. PageRank scores each website according to the number of quality links, age, strength of domain name, keyword variables and etc. It is essential to know that not all links give the same score. Links from high PR websites will contribute to a higher score in comparison to low PR websites. However, this does not mean that you should completely disregard low PR websites.

According to Google’s algorithmic standards, websites that rank high have the following characteristics:

  • Natural and fresh content
  • Balanced keyword distribution and ratio
  • Frequent updates
  • Relevant backlinks to high ranking websites
  • Good use of headers and tags
  • Fast loading speed
  • Index-friendly

These are the basic factors that every SEO practitioner should have as their foundation for a website. While the list seems repetitive, Google stresses these factors more and more with each update to the system.

Fresh Content

Fresh content is a great way to boost or maintain your website's rank. Try typing in a set of keywords that’s related to a recent event in Google, and you’ll find that only fresh content appears. Articles that were made in 2005 that have the same keywords are rarely present in the first page of the results.

Putting out new website content is not as hard as it sounds. You don’t need to be fixated on long articles all the time. When it comes to fresh content, consistency is key. That’s why it’s not difficult to rank websites that specialize in news even when each article is only 200-300 words.
