Speed Up Meetings by Standing Up

Stand up! It’s the new way to get things done.

We all dread those morning meetings that never seem to end. Everyone in the corporate world has them. The worst part is, most of the time you leave with absolutely no memory of what the meeting was even about, aside from that part where Frank spilled his coffee or Janet dropped her pen. Well Business man Lin Wu from Men’s Health has conducted some personal research and discovered a simple way to speed up a meeting and get to the point. Simply – stand up.

"At most corporate meetings, people sit down with coffee and food and fall asleep," says Wu. "It's unbelievable how much time is wasted. So whenever I was in the middle of a big project, I would call a critical-issues meeting every day with my key people. But here's the trick: I'd schedule that meeting for around 5 p.m., when everyone was tired and ready to go home, and I wouldn't allow anyone to sit down. I never had a meeting last more than an hour. Most lasted 20 to 30 minutes. It kept everyone focused and effective."

When people are standing, they are more inclined to pay attention. With less distraction and more involvement everyone is forced to perk up, listen, and provide feedback in order to give their feet a rest ( or in Mr.Wu’s case, go home). Talk about motivation! At your next meeting, ditch the chairs and save some time.
