How to Start a YouTube Career

Career success on YouTube relies on building a successful channel and bringing your idea to life with a set of stimulating videos that will enthrall your audience. Your subscribers are key to your success as they will not only come back and watch more but they will also make your videos go viral… Rhett and Link, the Mythical Morning guys, amusingly explain how to start a career with the world’s leading video-sharing platform.

Begin by planning out your channel’s blueprint to turn your idea into a living channel that can thrive on YouTube. Here are some tips to help you getting cozy with YouTube.

Find your niche

Start by identifying what you are passionate about and what you are really capable of doing.  Not necessarily what you deem successful or what people will more likely watch. Here is how to match your passions and talents: Create a list with two columns. On the left column list your talents, that is things you are really good at doing. On the right column jot down your passions, that is things you love doing or have a passion about.

So, if you are good at cooking and have a passion about oriental food, why not create a YouTube video showing people how to cook Chinese fortune cookies or Cantonese style recipes? The main idea here is that you match a talent and passion in the best possible way so as to create a YouTube channel that will help bridge a market gap and help establish yourself as an expert in a specific area.

Ideally try to find a topic that does not already exist on any YouTube channel and would really offer new insights that will solve your target audience’s problems.

Commit to making different stuff

Give it a shot! Try to deal with a variety of topics and dare to experiment with different projects. Try as much as you can to stay with these ideas, and find out information and research thoroughly to boost your knowledge and expertise in a given subject.  The YouTube Creator Academy can help you create great lessons and develop loyal fans in no time.

Meanwhile, measure success

Take advantage of YouTube Analytics to see how you are doing with progress on your video popularity. Evaluate your success and keep track of how many likes (or dislikes) you received, positive vs. negative comments, subscribers following your channel or how many people shared your videos.

Make money

Congratulations! You have managed to build up a substantial fan base on YouTube thanks to your own creative work. The good news is that this work does not only appeal to your audience, but also to potential advertisers and sponsors. If your video qualifies for being monetized, then you can start generating revenue by fostering business relationships with advertisers looking for creative ways to reach and target new and existing audiences.

The key to starting a YouTube career is to match a talent and a passion and turn this combination into a creative YouTube video that will showcase your personality, captivate your audience and create buzz about your unique way of inspiring people.
