Taiwan Police Training

The Taiwan Police Academy is the primary educational institution responsible for the education and training of police recruits to the Taiwan National Police Agency under the Ministry of the Interior.

The police academy provides specialist training and includes the following Corps:

  • Police band

  • Battalions

  • Security Brigade

The primary objective behind the academy is to promote police knowledge and skills, and train excellent police officers to ensure a strong police force. Through providing training courses and specialist subjects, the academy aims to instill the following characteristics in their new recruits:

  • Integrity and morality

  • Organizational disciple

  • Professional knowledge and capability

  • Strong physique

  • Distinguished skills

  • Humanistic cultivation

Education and training

The education provided at the police academy can be categorized into four primary units, which are:

  1. Regular education (provided by the Central Police University and Taiwan Police College)

  2. Continued education (provided by the Central Police University and Taiwan Police College)

  3. Advanced education (provided by the Central Police University and Taiwan Police College)

  4. In-service training (provided by local offices for their officers on active service)

The core subjects covered at the college include:

  • Police administration

  • Criminal investigation

  • Disaster management

  • Traffic management

  • Maritime policing

The physical training of recruits is just as vital as the theory aspects of the police training courses, and it is essential for all candidates to be physically fit and capable of performing police duties. The college provides intensive physical fitness training programs which comprise of; judo, shooting, swimming, subduing technique training, combat training, firefighting and physical skills.

 

Upon graduating from the relevant educational institution, new recruits will then be able to focus on their career path and progression within their specific area of interest within the force. There are five main police specialization units available, namely; administration police, traffic police, criminal investigation police, specialized police, and special police.
