If you are passionate about your job, then that’s great news. In fact, this means that you are amongst the lucky 20 percent of people who are satisfied with their current job. But being happy with your job is entirely different to being addicted to it.

Being a workaholic means that you put work as your main priority in life and as such you are likely to neglect other important aspects of your life including your personal and social life.

You are the first to arrive at the office. You are the one who switches on the lights and puts on the AC, but you love it. Perhaps you like working in a quiet or a peaceful environment, or you really enjoy doing your job, which can’t be a bad thing right? Well no, unless you are putting too much pressure on yourself and you are working a lot of unnecessary overtime.

#2 You Constantly Check Your Emails

Work is messing up your social life and wherever you go you are checking your mobile just to be sure you are up to date with everything that’s going on at work. In fact, you have even synced your work email with your personal account.

You know you are addicted to your job when you are away on holiday, but you just keep on checking emails and calling up to find out if everything is okay. Get off the phone, and enjoy your holiday. After all, research shows, taking a holiday from time to time is beneficial to your career as a whole since it makes you healthier and more productive.

#4 Your Job is Your Life Purpose

The main difference between workaholics and other people is that they live to work when they should be working to live. So, if you are spending more than 10 hours a day at work, your job is practically consuming your whole life. Maybe you need to rethink your priorities and what you care about the most. While your job requires your attention, there are also others things in your life that are equally important.

#5 You Are Dreaming About Work

If you have started dreaming about your job, then you know things are getting serious and not in a good way. You’re probably doing this to yourself because all you can think of is work, work, work. Perhaps it is time to relax and take a break from what is making you worry about your job. If you want to keep yourself busy, then there are many hobbies that you can take up to mix up your routine.

Being addicted to your job means that you love your job and that you want to go straight to the top. But while this is a good thing, sometimes it can get a bit overwhelming, especially if your job becomes your life’s priority and uses up the time you should be spending on yourself or your family.

So what’s the best way to tell if you are a workaholic? Ask the people around you. They will be able to tell if you need a break.
