The Importance of a Responsive Business Website

In this day and age, smartphones and tablets have become an integral part of our lives. People use their mobile devices for everything from checking emails and surfing the web, to interacting on social media and shopping online. This is why it is important for businesses to ensure that their sites are mobile friendly. This is why responsive web design (RWD) is very important.

Responsive web design is an approach which involves coding and laying out a site in a way that offers an optimal visual experience. Whether using their mobile phones or desktop computers, visitors are able to navigate and read content easily without much scrolling, panning or resizing.

Here are some of the reasons why your business should have a responsive site:

1. One site, multiple devices

In the past, businesses had to design a ‘desktop version’ of their sites and a separate ‘mobile version’. However, responsive web design allows you to create one site where the text, images, screen layouts and navigation elements adjust themselves to different devices. Users are able to enjoy a consistent experience, regardless of whether their devices are running on operating systems such as Windows, Android or others. Having a consistent look for your site will allow you to maintain brand recognition.

2. Saves money and time

Having to build a site for computers and a separate one for mobile devices can be quite expensive. Therefore, using responsive web design allows you to save significantly on web development costs. In addition, responsive design enables you to cut down on the cost of maintaining two separate sites.

3. Positive user experience

User experience is very important for the success of any business site. If your site is not responsive, the images, menus and text on your site are likely to appear disproportional or skewed in mobile devices. As a result, mobile users might not be able to find what they are looking for. A responsive design allows you to offer your visitors a great user experience, regardless of whether they are using a tablet, desktop computer, smartphone, laptop or even smart TV.

4. Low bounce rate

If your visitors cannot find what they are looking for using tablets or smartphones, they will simply leave your site and go elsewhere. A high bounce rate will eventually have a negative effect on your site’s search engine rankings. Building a responsive website will make it easier for mobile users to navigate your site, thus lowering the bounce rate. As a result, your site’s rankings will improve.

5. Ease of tracking

Keeping track of your analytics while running multiple versions of your site can be very costly and tiring. Having one responsive site makes it easier to monitor analytics such as the number of people visiting your site, the bounce rate as well as conversions.

Whether your business website is responsive or not will have a major impact on your success. Having a non-responsive site can be very detrimental for your business. Be sure to make your site responsive to enjoy all the benefits listed above.
