It is also the largest commodities trader in the world, trading minerals, crude oil, oil, metals, jet fuel, cotton, coal, gasoline, and so much more. It employs around 190,000 people just in Switzerland!
2. Novartis
The Swiss pharmaceutical company famous for Theraflu, Excedrin, and Maalox has only been around since 1996, but it has reached the 157th position on the Fortune 500 list. It employs around 136,000 people in Switzerland.
3. Migros
Founded in 1925 as a store to sell just six basic items (coffee, sugar, rice, soap, coconut oil, and noodes), Migros has gone on to become the largest supermarket – and employer – in Switzerland. It employs around 94,000 people!
4. Nestlé
The food and beverage company responsible for Nestlé chocolates, Kit Kat chocolate bars and Nespresso coffee is ranked 14th on the Fortune 500 list. The company – founded back in 1866 – currently employs around 333,000 people around the world.
5. Coop Cooperative
Founded in 1969, Coop is the largest wholesale and retail company in Switzerland, with more than 2.5 million members! It employs around 74,000 people and there are nearly 1,500 shops around the country.
6. ABB Group
It’s estimated that the ABB Group employs around 150,000 people in more than 100 countries. Robotics and power products are its primary source of revenue, and it is one of the largest engineering companies and conglomerates in the entire world.
7. Roche Group
Also known as F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG, the Roche Group is one of the largest pharmaceutical and diagnostics companies in Europe. It owns Genentech, the American biotech company, and employs around 85,000 people.

This global financial services company holds the 215th place on the Fortune 500 list. Formed from the merger between the Swiss Bank Corporation and the Union Bank of Switzerland, UBS AG currently employs around 60,000 people.
10. Credit Suisse
