Top 10 Essential Apps for Anyone Who Works in Sales

The sales industry is ultracompetitive. The smallest advantage can mean the difference between being the top seller at your company, and being at the bottom of the sales ladder. Top sellers enjoy big offices and hot new leads. Once you slip to the bottom, you’ll find yourself in the tiny cubicle near the bathroom working ice-cold leads. Apps are excellent tools to help you gain and maintain your sales advantage. Use these ten apps to reach the top of the sales ladder.

1. Salesforce1

Salesforce1 is the Cadilillac of customer relationship management (CRM) software. Nearly all successful companies use the program to support the sales process. The Salesforce1 app is free for any company that already pays for the desktop version.

Salesforce1 acts as a social media platform for sales teams. You can use the program to track customer correspondence, monitor sales goals, manage leads, and to view the progress of other members of your team. Salesforce1 is an invaluable tool and chances are your company already pays for it, so you need to take full advantage of all its features.

Available for iOS and Android

2. Square Register

You’ve just pitched a customer and the customer says, “I’ll mail you a check”. The feeling in the pit of your stomach tells you that you may never receive that check. Well, you can avoid this situation entirely by downloading the Square Register app.

Square Register’s tagline says “Take care of your business anywhere with Square,” and they mean it literally. Signing up for Square Register is free and as soon as you create an account, they will mail you a credit card reader. The card reader plugs into your phone and accepts all major credit cards. The app isn’t entirely free because Square Register charges a flat rate of 2.7% on all transactions, but losing 2.7% of a sale is much better than losing the sale altogether.

Available for iOS and Android

3. Doc Scan

If you’re on the road a lot, finding a scanner for important documents can be nearly impossible. Imagine that you’re driving to your next sales appointment and a huge potential client calls and says, “I’m ready to sign, send the documents before I change my mind”. There’s no need to panic if you’ve downloaded the Doc Scan app.

Doc Scan allows you to take pictures of important documents with your phone. Then the app converts the documents to a PDF or zipped JPEG almost immediately. The image quality is surprisingly good and rivals that of a traditional scanner. Doc Scan is absolutely free and is an excellent app to put in your sales toolbox.

Available for iOS

4. GoToMeeting

The GoToMeeting program is over ten years old but through constant improvements and upgrades, it is still the premier online meeting software in the business world. GoToMeeting offers you the experience of attending sales meetings while you’re out of the office.

Before GoToMeeting, sellers would have to attend meetings via phone when they were out of the office. This made it impossible to watch presentations and quite difficult to speak up and be heard. GoToMeeting allows people to fully participate in meetings. Users can join in via videoconferencing and even watch PowerPoint presentations on their devices in real time. GoToMeeting is free to download if your company uses the program.

Available for iOS and Android

5. Keynote

6. CamCard

Business cards have an exceptional knack for disappearing. A client hands you a business card and you put it in your pocket. When you look for it at the end of the day, it has magically vanished. We’ve all been there and it is unbelievably frustrating. CamCard can keep you from ever having to search for a business card again.

CamCard allows sellers to take a quick photo of a client’s business card with their phones, and the information is immediately uploaded into the app. The app syncs with the phone’s contacts and creates a new entry. You can also save a picture of your own business card and send it to customers via the app or through email. The sales world can be hectic and business cards are often lost. CamCard solves this irritating problem. Start a free trial with CamCard Lite, and then download the full app for just $6.99.

Available for iOS and Android

7. Sales Goal Tracker

All sellers have goals. Sellers are constantly looking at spreadsheets and earning matrices in an effort to figure out how much money they will actually make on the next commission check. After all, sellers make their money on commission; a base salary is just a small part of their income. Sales Goal Tracker allows sales professionals to delete their spreadsheets and view their sales goals in one streamlined app.

Sales Goal Tracker is fully customizable and displays your commission from each sale. It also lets you know how close you are to your sales and income goals at a variety of intervals. You can set the app to track goals daily, weekly, quarterly or yearly. You can know what you’re making and what you’re going to make just by opening the app. At just $14.99 it’s a bargain for the time you’ll save and the peace of mind it will give you.

8. EasyBiz Mileage Tracker

Entering mileage numbers can be a chore for traveling sales professionals. You have to write down your starting and ending mileage, and then calculate the total and enter it into a spreadsheet. It doesn’t sound all that arduous, but we have all forgotten to write down our starting mileage at times, and then we have to guess which possibly cheats us out of part of our mileage reimbursement. EasyBiz Mileage Tracker takes the guesswork out of mileage tracking.

All you have to do is enter some vehicle information, tap a button, and the app does the rest. Other features include label and expense filters, graphs and analytical breakdowns of monthly and daily trips, and Google Drive backup. With this app, you never have to guess what your mileage is again. Use EasyBiz Mileage Tracker to make sure you are getting paid for every mile you drive. The best part is that it’s free.

Available for iOS and Android

9. Office Offline

Most sales professionals weren’t English majors in college. Oftentimes, there are errors in quickly typed documents. When you’re out of the office and need to send a document, it’s imperative to read through it one more time and scan it for errors. Office Offline allows sellers to review all types of documents and edit them as needed.

Office Offline is available to download for $9.99 on iOS. It is no longer available for Android, but it has been replaced by the Google Docs app which can be used for the same tasks. Both are compatible with all documents in the Microsoft Office suite. You can open Word, Excel, and Powerpoint files from a mobile device and edit them just as if you were sitting in front of a desktop computer. In addition, you can open PDF files and attach documents to email. You never have to send an important document full of errors again.

Available for iOS

10. LinkedIn

This may seem like an obvious choice but you would be surprised to learn how many sellers do not use this invaluable resource to its fullest potential. LinkedIn is so widespread that almost every professional has a profile. It is an important networking tool to make connections with customers and other sales professionals.

The LinkedIn app is completely free and functions exactly like the website. You can search for contacts by name, location and professional details, making finding the exact person you’re looking for virtually error-proof. Download the app, and immediately start connecting with people and stay on top of industry news.
