Celebrities are most certainly versatile folks – they know how to make us laugh, cry, look in disgust, but most importantly, in order to remain in the eye of the public, they need to be scandalous. If you want to be noticed the drama must go on, and when you are a celebrity simply getting drunk is more than enough for a good news story. This is ultimately a good thing, I mean think about it, what would our small talk sessions sound like without celebrities and viral videos to fill the void. Commenting on the weather can only give you a sentence or two, three at best, but celebrity-related gossip can go on for hours, so you can cover all of your social anxieties and emotional insecurities simply by choosing celebrities as a topic.

However, people rarely talk about how generous some celebrities can be. It is like an unspoken rule, but you are more likely to go viral if you hate on something, than if you talk positively about it. Still I feel it is important to mention good deeds every once in a while, since it would be a shame for them to go unnoticed. Below we’ve compiled a list of celebrities who don’t think twice before offering their time and money to good causes.
10. Justin Bieber
To beliebers he is a god, to others he is just a goofy wannabe who didn’t know what to do, so he decided to buy a monkey. Maybe he is hated because he is famous, or maybe he is famous because he is hated, but whatever the case, Bieber had a fair amount of charity donations as well. Justin was awarded with the Champ of Charity award for the year 2014, and he didn’t even keep the award – he gave it to Grace Kesablak, a 10-year old girl who is fighting cancer. Say what you want, but this kid knows how to be a hero.
9. LeBron James
He is one of the top paid basketball players, and his annual revenue is around 33 million dollars. So, when LeBron isn’t busy buying cars, houses, $300,000 engagement rings, and pursuing other expensive activities like his celebrity peers do, he donates money. James donated $2.5 million to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, which enables young people to explore their true potential and encourages them to make a positive change. He also supports different charity organizations like After-School All Stars, Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation, the Children’s Defense Club, ONEXONE.
8. John Cena
We all know about the Make-A-Wish foundation, but do you know the name of the most requested celebrity is? Who the biggest wish granter is? HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA! He also supports other good causes like Susan G. Komen’s organization, which raises funds for breast cancer awareness. Due to his leadership and devotion, the WWE managed to raise over 1.5 million dollars after teaming up with Susan G. Komen in the year 2012.
7. J.K. Rowling
She created an incredible world we all enjoy, which ultimately made us sad that it doesn’t exist. There is nothing as heart-breaking as not receiving an invitation letter to Hogwarts at the age of eleven. Harry Potter books made this woman into a billionaire, and she could have remained a billionaire, if she didn’t donate ridiculous amounts of money. Over 160 million dollars were donated to organizations linked with poverty, multiple sclerosis, illiteracy, and children’s welfare. The books she wrote specifically for charity purposes, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" and "Quidditch Through the Ages", managed to raise over 30 million dollars.
6. George Lucas
He created a masterpiece, and a few decades down the road decided to butcher it. Quite frankly, nobody saw the the disaster coming, and everyone was pretty hyped when “Phantom Menace” was about to come out. Well, if you thought it was selfish of him to pass on the Star Wars baton to Disney, listen to this. Lucas earned over 4 billion dollars on this sale, and he plans to donate it all for the sake of improving the education system. He wrote the following in his pledge letter: “I am dedicating the majority of my wealth to improving education. It is the key to the survival of the human race. We have to plan for our collective future — and the first step begins with the social, emotional, and intellectual tools we provide to our children. As humans, our greatest tool for survival is our ability to think and to adapt — as educators, storytellers, and communicators, our responsibility is to continue to do so.”
5. Morgan Freeman
There are a lot of rumours about Morgan Freeman. Some claim that he is a divine entity that narrates everyone’s life, and when internet trolls are bored, they like to start rumours about how Morgan Freeman’s light has left this world. It is a never ending online struggle between people who try to deify him and those who try to portray him as a mere mortal. Morgan Freeman rarely addresses any of these rumours, as he is too busy, but he still manages to find the time to help those in need. Morgan Freeman supports around 20 charity organizations and the same amount of causes. He is also on the board of directors for developing Biofuels, a clean source of energy.
4. Taylor Swift
We knew she was trouble when she walked in, and we know she’s got bad blood, but this blonde teen diva has a bleeding heart for those in need. She has forged an alliance with Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen to fight against internet sex crimes. She also donated $100,000 to the Red Cross in Cedar Rapids to help victims of the Iowa flood in the year 2008. She supports over 20 Charities and causes, and in the year 2009 she performed on BBC’s Children in Need concert.
3. Miley Cyrus
This queen of scandal knows how to draw attention to herself. She’s in the club high on purp with some shades and J’s on. We all knew Disney’s Hannah Montana will grow up eventually, but no one expected something like this to emerge. I mean, have you seen her Instagram? YIKES! All weirdness aside, Miley knows how to make a positive difference. She supports the Libby Ross Foundation, which promotes early breast cancer detection and strives to eradicate the disease. She also supports over 40 different charities and 29 causes.
She runs the world, along with other girls, she’s a survivor not a forgiver, and she’s a grown woman who does whatever she wants, and, among other things, she wants to help. Along with Kelly Rowland from Destiny’s Child, she founded an organization called Survivor Foundation to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Additionally, she teamed up with various anti-hunger organizations like Feeding America, The Global Food Banking Network and her own Beyoncé Experience tour.
1. Angelina Jolie
As Lara Croft she has saved the world more than once, but as Angelina she is doing it one child at the time. In fact it was during the filming of Tomb Raider in Cambodia that Angelina became aware of just how much help is required, in order to rejuvenate those who live in war-ravaged countries. If you are in need of a positive role model, then look no further. This woman can never be a villain, she proved it by playing Maleficent. She literally goes all over the world to help those less fortunate.
