Apart from the numerous wonderful monuments located in the heart of the country, China is particularly known for those personalities who have made the place so popular. Many prominent actors, athletes and musicians have made the country very proud having gained global recognition from their work.

Here’s the list of the top 5 most influential people from China:

#1 Jackie Chan

Jackie Chan is a Hong Kong actor, director and producer. Well-known for his acrobatic fighting style and comic timing, Chan has appeared in more than 150 films throughout his career. For his excellent acting he received stars on the Hong Kong Avenue of Stars and the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was referenced in many pop songs and cartoons. Also, as a Cantopop and Mandopop star he released several albums and sung a lot of theme songs for the films which he took part in.

#2 Yao Ming

Yao Ming is a retired Chinese professional basketball player who played for the Houston Rockets and was forced to retire after several foot and ankle injuries. Known as the tallest active player in the NBA, Ming is 2.29m (7ft 6 in) tall and since last year is the 31 tallest person in the world! Ming is one of China’s most famous athletes who has had sponsorships with several companies. During all of his seasons in the league, he was named an NBA All-Star.

#3 Lu Han

Lu Han is a Chinese singer and actor who was once a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy band EXO. In 2014, China National Radio positioned Lu Han 6 among the top 10 most popular entertainment stars in the country. Thus far, he won 5 recognition awards that acknowledged Lu Han as the Most Valuable Male Star, Asia Popular Idol, Person of the Year, Weibo Male God of the Year and Weibo King in the years 2014 and 2015.

#4 Jet Li

Jet Li is a Chinese film actor, film producer, martial artist and wushu champion. At the age of 8, he began training in the martial arts and joining the Beijing Wushu Team. When he retired from Wushu at the age of 19, Li made his acting debut in the film Shaolin Temple and became famous from his role in the Once Upon a Time in China series. Throughout his career he co-starred with several popular actors including Sylvester Stallone, Jackie Chan and Brendan Fraser.

#5 Fan Bingbing

Fan Bingbing is a Chinese actress, TV producer and pop singer who came 1 on the Forbes China Celebrity 100 list in 2013 and 2014. Famous for her role in the TV series My Fair Princess, Bingbing received many awards for her acting roles from the Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards, the Eurasia International Film Festival, and many others. Throughout her career, Fan has also taken part in many foreign-language films such as Stretch, My Way and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
