Around 2pm, you start to feel it. Your focus gets blurry, your body feels like your carrying around an 800lb gorilla, and your mood could scare the interns right back to their cubicles, tails tucked. You have two choices, ride the burnout wave doing the least amount of work possible until the 5 o’clock bell or find something to get you perked up and back at top performance. 1. Kale-ific Contender

You’re in the title bout around 2pm, this smoothie is full of vitamin C, potassium, and iron to help boost your energy flow and keep you fighting like Mohammad Ali:

  • 2 Ripe Bananas
  • 2 tablespoons of hulled hemp seeds
  • 1 bag of frozen blueberries
  • 2.5 cups of water
  • 1 Bunch of Kale (5 or six bog leaves)

P.S. Kale has a ton of sulfur and fiber, so it’s great for detoxifying your body after a long night of martini marathons.

2. Green Hurricane

This recipe is one of my favorites since it is chock full of natural sweetness. It’s no coincidence that you often crave a sugary snack during the 2pm crawl, this is because your body is in desperate need of some of the fast-burning fuel that only sugary foods can provide. This smoothie is packed with B vitamins to help boost energy, as well as focus, without the candy bar crash.

  • Bunch of Grapes (about 2 cups)
  • 3 Peeled Kiwis
  • 1 Orange
  • 5 Leaves of Red Lettuce
  • 2 Cups of Water

3. The Wake Me Up

This smoothie has a powerful kick that will carry you through the most boring of board meetings.
  • 1/2 Avocado
  • 3 Sprigs of Fresh Mint
  • Bunch of Watercress Leaves
  • 1/2 Juiced Lemon
  • 1/2 Cup Apple Juice
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 1/2 Cup Lowfat Yogurt
  • 3 Drops Tabasco Hot Sauce

4. Lean and Mean

This powerful smoothie tops out at about 320 calories so it can be consumed as a meal replacement drink. It has all the vitamins but half the calories of a full breakfast or lunch.

  • 1 Cup of Beet Greens
  • 1/2 Cup Kale
  • 1/3 Cup Celery
  • 1 Medium Carrot
  • 1/2 Banana
  • 1 Peach
  • 1/4 Cup Blueberries
  • 2 Tbsp Shaved Ginger Root
  • 2 Tbsp Peanut Butter
  • 1 Cup 1% Milk

5. Popeye's Pride

Spinach and strawberries, what’s better? This smoothie uses the power of ultra greens to not only provide you with energy but also support lean muscle growth, so be sure to enjoy one of these after your workout.

  • 2 Cups of Fresh Spinach
  • 10 Strawberries
  • 2 Fresh Bananas
  • 2 Frozen Bananas
  • 1/4 Cup Water

All of the above smoothies can be made in the morning before heading out to work. I suggest blending each ingredient one at a time and storing the smoothie in your work fridge until you’re ready for a pick me up. These smoothies are loaded with vitamins and minerals that are meant to provide you with a quick boost, but they can be enjoyed anytime.
