1. Iguazu Falls, Argentina
Iguazu falls are on the border of Argentina and Parana, Brazil. Legend says that a deity who was planning to marry a beautiful woman named Naipi, sliced the river creating the waterfalls to punish her for fleeing with her lover in a canoe!
2. Fortaleza, Brazil
If you want to experience Brazil’s nightlife, you should visit Fortaleza. It is a vibrant city – the 5th largest in Brazil, where you can enjoy music, dance and join the ongoing parades that take place throughout the year.
3. Huacachina, Peru
This beautiful oasis in the middle of the dessert is the Huacachina village in the Inca Region. The ‘oasis of America’, as it’s often called, was built around a small natural lake around the 1930s and offers many attractions to tourists who are interested in sand boarding.
4. The River of Five Colours, Colombia
The river of five colours or ‘liquid rainbow’ is regarded as the most beautiful river in the world by many. It’s unique because of the variety of colours the bed of the river exhibits at the end of July and in November time. The river gets its colours e.g. yellow, green, blue, black, red from the plant ‘podostemaceae’.
5. Galapagos Islands, Ecuador
The beautiful Galapagos Islands in Ecuador consist of 19 islands, many islets and rock formations. This place hosts many very rare animal species that you can find nowhere else in the world, so it’s definitely a must-visit destination!
6. Machu Picchu, Peru
This historic site dates back to the 15 century and is located 7,970 ft above sea level in Peru. Machu Picchu is definitely a place to visit once you travel to South America as there is nothing quite like it in the world.
7. Hand of the Desert, Chile
Located in the Atacama Desert, Chile the ‘hand of the desert’ or Mano del Desierto, comes out of the sand reaching 1,100 metres above sea level. The sculpture was built by a Chilean sculptor and was used to express emotions such as injustice, loneliness, sorrow and human vulnerability.
8. Geysers el de Tatio, Chile
The El Tatio geyser field is located on the Andes Mountains in Chile, and it is among the highest-elevation geyser fields in the world. With more than 80 active geysers that erupt up to even 6 metres, the site is often visited by tourists who come to the steams created by the eruptions or bathe in the hot geyser water in a small pool!
9. Angel Falls, Venezuala
Angel Falls is the highest uninterrupted waterfall in the world with a height of 3,212 ft. The waterfall got its name after Jimmie Angel; a US aviator was the first to fly over it.
10. Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia
This is the world’s largest salt lake and arguably the most spectacular destination in South America. This is where earth meets the sky as the water shows its reflection creating an amazing Bolivian landscape.
