Ever heard of the “Golden Hour”? I hadn’t either before researching what some of the most successful people in the world do first thing in the morning! But is seems that the Golden Hour really is well known amongst the ultra wealthy and powerful; they understand the key to success and much of that lies within getting the Golden Hour right every morning.

As you can guess, the Golden Hour refers to the first hour when you wake up in the morning. This hour is precious because it is when your brain is at its freshest and most susceptible to new ideas, energies and thoughts. It is quite literally the best period of your entire day to set yourself in the right frame of mind for success.

We are well aware that eating a healthy breakfast is important, but what else is key to ensuring success first thing in the morning?

Rise and Shine!

Waking up early is a morning ritual for the super successful and wealthy among us. The more powerful you are the more likely it is that you are busy from the second you wake up to the second you fall asleep, and so time really is precious. As such, successful people tend to wake up before 6a.m. on weekdays, according to a poll by Vanderkam. Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger reportedly wakes up every morning at 4.30am to read!


You need to spend some time each morning simply clearing your mind and getting it ready for the day head. You can meditate through Yoga which will also help to de-stress your mind and body, burn calories, strengthen your core, and keep you happy and healthy.


Gratitude is key for successful people. They deliberately take time out of their morning to write down what they are most grateful for in life. Without gratitude and appreciation, you cannot fully open your mind to new opportunities and further your success. It is well known amongst circles of some of the most rich and successful people that gratitude (and I am talking about really feeling gratitude, not just thinking about how grateful you are) plays a pivotal role in the lives of powerful people. Build up a notebook by writing down a couple of things you are truly grateful for every morning.

Family time

Whether it is your spouse or your children, it is important that you take the time to spend some quality moments with them each morning, whenever possible. Even if it is a 5 minute morning coffee together with your partner or eating breakfast with your children before work, this time is precious and you should spend it wisely with those you love.

Strategise your day

It is important that once you have woken up in the right frame of mind, relaxed and de-stressed, having spent some quality time with your loved ones and after writing down what you are most grateful for, you need to map out your day. This essentially involves visualising your goals to achieve specifically for that day. To do this, you need to prioritise tasks and set yourself time frames to achieve each one by. This daily ‘map’ should be with you throughout the day so you can check off everything you have achieved as you do it.
