7 Reasons we Should Never Feel Like a Failure

Maybe you had big plans for your life, but didn’t hit any of these goals. Or maybe you’re sitting on the sidelines watching your friends move up the career ladder and you feel left behind.

If you’ve struggled with setback after setback and you can’t seem to get ahead, at times you may feel like a failure. But just because life doesn’t always go according to plan doesn’t mean you haven’t achieved anything.

Here are seven reasons you should never feel like a failure

1. You are a Hard Worker

It might not be the most glamorous or the highest paying job, but if it pays the bills and you’re taking care of yourself and family, be proud of this accomplishment and don’t beat yourself up.

Some people associate success with the amount in their bank accounts. And if they don’t earn as much as someone else, they feel inferior. However, you’re not a failure if you’re doing your best to make ends meet.

2. You Have People Who Care About You

If you have family and friends who care about you, and if those in your circle think highly of you, you have every reason to feel good about yourself. Maybe you feel you could’ve accomplished more in life. You’re not alone, and a lot of people feel this way from time to time. Success isn’t only about jobs or money, it’s also about healthy, strong relationships.

3. You're a Different Person From a Year Ago

Looking back to this time last year, maybe you were unemployed, depressed or dealing with other personal issues. Be proud if you’ve taken steps to improve yourself. This is more than what a lot of people can say. Some people would rather complain and whine about a problem than find a solution.

4. You Have Clearly Defined Goals

You’re not a failure if you’re actively working toward goals. Sometimes, our life plan gets off track and we have to revisit the drawing board and reevaluate. Whether you’re planning to go back to school and get your degree, or you’re planning to start your own business and be your own boss, setting goals and a plan of action keeps you motivated and focused.

5. You've Risen Above Disappointments

Everyone experiences disappointments. Maybe you’re overlooked for a promotion at work, or perhaps you’ve applied for several jobs but haven’t received an offer. If you can hold your head up in the face of disappointment and never make excuses, you’ll eventually reach your goals and accomplish more than you thought possible.

6. You're a Victim of Circumstance

Even if you do everything right, life can take a downward turn unexpectedly. The truth is, some things are simply beyond your control. You might get laid off from work despite being a hard worker. This can cause a chain reaction where it becomes difficult to pay bills and you might lose your house or car. Your circumstances and sense of security can change at any moment, but this doesn’t mean you’re a failure, nor does it mean you can’t make a comeback.

7. You're Happy and Content

Some people prefer a simple life. They live in small houses, they don’t seek the highest paying jobs, and they don’t need a lot of material things. Although you enjoy simplicity, outsiders might look at your life and think you could’ve accomplished so much more, or that you’re not living up to your full potential. But if you’re content and happy with your current situation, don’t let the comments of others make you feel like a failure.
