Unfair standards plague us all our lives. If you think you can jump high, there is someone (or many) that can jump higher and do it with more style than you could even imagine. Luckily though, most of these historic prodigies are long dead.
What would you do if you did have to compare yourself to some of the most talented, unbelievably, disgustingly gifted individuals in the world? I guess if we were to sit down and ceaselessly compare ourselves to others we would never do anything. We would be overcome and overwhelmed with crippling self-deprecation and self-criticism. So Mozart could have written his first symphony by age eight, but he was exceptionally gifted, and it doesn’t mean that you have to give up because what you’re going to make is going to suck by comparison. It might even suck without the comparison, but still go ahead and make it.
