How to Become Self-Educated

It's amazing how much you can learn without ever having to leave your house! Becoming a self-educated man or woman is a great way to improve on the knowledge you already have. If you want to be highly successful in life, you'll need to absorb new information every day. Not only will it help you become more adept at your job, but you'll keep your brain sharp and working well for decades to come!

How to Self-Educate

Step 1: Decide on a topic -- What are you interested in studying? Do you want to improve your skills for your profession, or are you planning on learning a new, unrelated skill that will come in handy for your personal life? Think about what you want to study, and make sure you're willing to put in the time and hard work.

Step 2: Start learning online -- Before you sign up for any courses or classes, hit the internet and start learning there. Wikipedia is an excellent place to get started, and you can dive in with the basics immediately. It will give you a taste of what the subject will be like and you'll discover whether or not the topic still interests you once it gets harder.

Step 3: Start a course -- You can find dozens of websites offering you free courses on whatever topic you want to learn. While many of these courses are very basic, they can get you started. Once you know a bit more, you may want to consider signing up for a more expensive, comprehensive course. You can take online courses from some of the best universities in the country, or try an online college like the University of Phoenix.

Step 4: Practice every day -- This is one of the most important parts of being self-educated: putting what you learn into practice. No matter what you are learning--whether it be art, accounting, architecture, or dance--you HAVE TO PRACTICE EVERY DAY! It's the only way that you'll hone the skills you are acquiring, and you'll find that it will make it much easier to learn more once you grasp what you have already learned.

Step 5: Interact with others -- One of the great things about the internet is that you can use it to help you learn and grow further. There are social media communities dedicated to every profession, art, and branch of studies under the sun, so it's a good idea to interact with people who are going through the same journey you are.

Step 6: Read, Read, Read -- The best way to continue learning and growing every day is by reading. You don't have to limit yourself to reading self-help, non-fiction, and educational books, but even enjoying some fiction helps. The important thing is that you are ALWAYS reading and expanding your mind, even if it's just learning new words and concepts. You should make it a point to read every single day and spend at least half an hour on a good book.

Becoming self-taught requires two things: commitment and discipline. Once you have committed to the education, it takes discipline to stick with it. If you have those two things, you'll find that becoming self-taught is not as hard as you might have thought!
