Celebrities Who Failed

When we think of celebrities, what first springs to mind? Successful, rich, beautiful, even if they are bottom of the rank Z-listers. The struggles of those celebrities never really spring to mind until we actually read about them. So, which top dogs first failed before reaching the big time in their careers?

J.K Rowling

The 'Harry Potter' writer certainly has had amazing success with her books, along with the films and merchandise  off the back of it. However, not everything was peaches and cream for her and her family. She was a divorced single mother struggling to get by on social security. Now she is a billionaire who has blessed many children's imaginations with 'Harry Potter'.

Steven Spielberg

It is hard to imagine this great director ever having much difficulty within the industry, but that's exactly what happened. He was ultimately rejected three times from the University of Southern California School of Theater, Film and Television. Now that would be discouraging to say the least, but the director attended school elsewhere, only to dropout before finishing. He eventually went back thirty-five years later to complete it!

Stephen King

Talk about surprising, right?! The horror writer surprisingly had thirty rejections of 'Carrie'. Lucky for us, he resubmitted the manuscript a final time and the book became a massive success.

Oprah Winfrey

This TV-mogul was once told she was "unfit for TV". Well, look who's laughing now! Oprah Winfrey is one of the most successful women ever. Not only does she give back to the community with her Leadership Academy for Girls, but she is greatly respected in the celebrity world. A truly inspiring woman who has shown to never give up what you love within your career.

Marilyn Monroe

This gorgeous icon undoubtedly had a very rough upbringing, despite to see the bright lights of super stardom. When Monroe was starting out, she was constantly told to consider a secretary role instead of modelling. Good thing she didn't give up on her dream, although her spark burnt out long before it should have with her dearly demise.

Elvis Presley

Elvis will always be a legend that rocked our world, and still continues to inspire young people everywhere. The best-selling artist ever still remains to be a household name that people continue to love, but this wasn't always the case. Elvis was unbelievably fired after his first performance being told, "You ain’t going nowhere, son. You ought to go back to driving a truck.” Just goes to show don't always follow criticism.

This has been just a snippet of stars that originally failed at their first attempts, but let it be a lesson to never give up on your dreams. Always get back up when you fall down. Try, try, try again and when that fails, try once more. If you love your career, keep going and eventually you will succeed.
