Don’t Have The Life You Want? This is How to Get it

Everyone has a dream. Some want to get rich; others want success, but every single one of them wants to be happy. So, they patiently wait for the right opportunity to come along. Perhaps, hoping an employer would offer them their dream job, or even waiting for big checks to arrive in the mail that can pay for a luxury waterfront house in Hawaii.  

But what most people don’t realise is that they can’t wait for that to happen. I mean, they can have hopes and goals but life is too short to sit around and wait. In fact, what’s the use of having any goals if you never mean to chase them?

At this point, it is important to understand that you are in the driver’s seat of your life, and it is high time to take action. That is of course if you want to avoid having big regrets about the way you’ve lived your life and the chances you didn’t take when you were young.

Your Life and Career as One

However, not everyone’s definition of ‘happy life’ or ‘dream job’ is in fact ever the same. That is because they have different needs as well as different life expectations.  

So let’s say at the age of seventeen you realised you wanted to become a doctor and you immediately began to set out your own path into your career and life - because how distinct can these two be really? – (Ultimately your career determines your life and your life is dependent on your career). Also, you realised that you were building your life on top of a demanding career that required from you to spend about ten years of your life studying before you could start a family.  

The reason I am referring to medicine is the fact that it is very different in contrast to other professional fields, and many people abandon the dream. But, whether you will be abandoning your dream or not, depends on your own values and beliefs, and what you consider as important. As such you are the only one who can confidently say how you get to live your life, how much you earn and how much you are worth.

If you are prepared, then you can confidently go ahead and commit yourself to working towards those things that will get you closer to your goal.

Changing Your Life

But to be able to change your life you have to allow yourself to embrace a different way of thinking. Obviously, you can’t have a change if you are insisting on doing the same things you did in your past. Likewise, you can’t change overnight.

Essentially, this is how it works:

  • Change your thinking
  • Change your actions
  • Create opportunities

If you want to get the life you want, here are the steps you need to take

#1 See Yourself in the Position

Imagining that you have already achieved your goal is a great way to help you succeed. This refers to the power of visualisation. So, if you want to become a great doctor, you need to say to yourself that you are a doctor, as this should help you believe it yourself. Didn’t you know seeing is believing? It’s all about envisioning who you want to be and ensuring that you are true to your own aspirations.

#2 Find Your Way

The second step to achieving the life you want would be to start looking at the ways you are already in your preferred position. For example, what are you doing right now that is helping you reinforce your stance, your ambitions, your wants and needs? Start by realising what you have got instead of what it is missing to help you develop.

#3 Better Your Game

Is there anything you need to do that will help you raise your game? Look at all the changes you are making in your life and find out what needs your immediate attention. Then try to identify what is going wrong and come up with better ways to make it work so that it is more aligned with your career and life expectations.

#4 Feed Your Dream

No matter the obstacles you find in your way, your job will be to stay true to your goals. If you are continuously feeding your dream and working on it day by day, there is no way you will miss out. If you are determined to become who you want to be, nothing can stop you from doing just that.

What kind of life do you want? Have you ever thought about it?
