How to Get Your Foot in the Door With Your Dream Employer

So you know where you want to work, but don’t know how to get the job at your dream company. Truth is that once you get your foot in the door with your dream employer, you are in. The challenging part is what comes first.

So, check out these 5 simple tips that will get your foot in the door to land your dream job:

#1 Become an insider

Get to know everything you can about the company so that when you meet with someone at an event or seminar, you know how to start a discussion on the company you want to work for. Also, ask someone who works there if he can give you more information about the culture of the organisation or if he is aware of any future job openings.

Identify causes or projects that matter to you, and to the organisation that match your career goals and interests. Also, get involved as much as possible with activities that relate to your area of expertise. Find out what the organisation needs and volunteer to get the knowledge and experience that they expect you to possess.

#2 Network with the right people within the industry

Expand your networking and connect with as many people as you can who are in the same industry. Ensure that you check who you are adding or following on social media so that you are connecting with people who either work for the company, or have links and partners within the company. Like the page and follow the group of the company on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+ and meet with people who are already working there.

#3 Market yourself online

Retaining an online presence is of huge importance as far as the job-hunting process is concerned. An online presence enables you to promote yourself and bring you one step closer to your dream employer. Social media can make your expertise available to your page visitors. For example, if you are currently working on a project that is relevant to the industry the organisation is based, you should include it on your LinkedIn profile so that others can see it as well. You never know if someone from the company visits your profile!

#4 Reach out

Check the organisation’s website and get to know the contact details for the HR department, and either email or call to inform them that you are interested in working there. Send a letter of enquiry, your cover letter and CV. Inform the company what you could do for them and that you would like to meet up to discuss potential opportunities if possible.

#5 Consider that you already have the job

Having a positive attitude will definitely help you increase your chances of getting the job. Try to imagine that you are already working for your dream employer and carrying out the tasks he would expect you to do if you actually had the job. Remember that this is the same with setting goals for yourself; “if you can dream it, you can achieve it”.
