Have you ever stopped to wonder how life would be without any signs of hardship? You could live a life where no rain or thunder would ever come knocking at your door, and your days would instead be filled with sunshine. Although that sounds like living the perfect life, how interesting do you really think it would be if there weren’t any struggles to face or any challenges to overcome?
Obstacles in life exist to remind us that life is worth living. Likewise, those difficulties that we face throughout our lives confirm that even though getting out alive is not easy, trying is definitely worth a shot. After all, life can be found within the bad experiences – not just the good ones. It’s in those experiences that we really get the chance to appreciate life.
This is what Gavin Pretor-Pinney talks about in his TED Talk, “Cloudy with a Chance of Joy”. Using the clouds as a metaphor to hardship, he explains how we can change the way we understand everyday challenges and how to embrace them for a better tomorrow. Essentially, he supports the idea that people often think of clouds as barriers, “as things that get in their way”, and as such fail to see the opportunity in them. However, even in the darkest of times, there is light that can guide us to happiness and success.
My favorite quote from this awesome TED Talk would most definitely be “living in the clouds helps you keep your feet on the ground”. What’s yours? Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments section below!
