How to De-Stress From the Job Search at Home

Searching for a job can be stressful, but it’s important to come up with ways to fight the anxiety you are feeling. These are some ways you can do it.

Being stressed out and searching for a job is never a good combination. It doesn’t help you get hired and only makes the situation worse than it already is. Not only that, but it also makes you more prone to making mistakes e.g. saying the wrong things in interviews and screwing up when talking to potential employers at events. These effects of stress are evident and have direct consequences on the success of your job search.

You should try and eliminate stress in any way possible. If you are currently looking for a job, here are some simple and alternative ways to take a break from your job search while you are at home.

1. Take a Good Bath

Sometimes, all that you need is a good bubble bath. This allows you to use the time for yourself and not think of anything else. Just like some religions believe “bathes are one of the most helpful therapeutic practices against many ailments, including mental illness and distress.” Why not try it out!

2. Doodle

Negative feelings such as anger, frustration, or stress can be banished in a matter of minutes. Doodling or drawing patterns helps you relax and takes your mind somewhere else – exactly where it doesn’t need to be. For example, creating or colouring mandalas can help you feel calmer and happier. According to Traci Pedersen, the mandala is considered a symbol of wholeness and connection and is used as a focal point for meditation, introspection and healing. So if meditation isn’t for you, drawings might do the work.

3. Exercise at Home

Exercising releases endorphins which are the chemicals that have the ability to make you feel good. Research shows, regular exercise reduces stress, keeps away anxiety and feelings of depression, boosts self-esteem and improves the quality of your sleep. If you have an exercise mat, you are ready to take working out at home to a whole new level. Instead of worrying whether you will get an answer from an employer, keep your mind distracted with some physical activity.

4. Watch a Movie

If you like watching movies and don’t mind staying at home doing absolutely nothing, choose a comedy movie to help you get out of your job search funk. Doing so will help you forget that you are jobless and need to find a job ASAP. A comedy movie will allow you to forget your problems smile and laugh a little. Since laughing is the best medicine a movie will lift your spirits in no time. If you prefer reading a book, that’s also a good way to unwind.
